Obituary

Doris Elaine Fisher Williams - Born June 11, 1934, in Pelican, LA to John Wesley Fisher and Marguerite Bama Welborn. She died at the young age of 92 years in Natchitoches, LA at the Natchitoches Community Care Center, where she called home for the past 5 months. Prior to that she had spent 10+ years at the Natchitoches Nursing and Rehab Center.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children: Juanita Williams, John David Williams, and Melissa “Lisa” Williams Fowler (Tony); four grandchildren: Autumn Britt (Layton), David Fowler, Jacob Williams (Kassie) and Jonah Williams (Jess), and nine great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Johnny, her brother Ray Fisher and granddaughter Jessica Williams.

Doris was born and raised in Pelican, LA. She later attended Northwestern College where she earned her Bachelor of Science in nursing. She was devoted to her patients no matter where the journey led. She was very compassionate with her patients, and each one was very special to her. She continued her nursing career until the age of 72. Even in retirement she had a caring heart for others. She used to say, “Nurses never really retire”. Doris loved to read murder suspense novels (mostly written by a specific author, but she could read anything). Some, she would read again and again, not because she forgot what it was about but because she enjoyed them that much. You could also catch her with a good puzzle book on any given day. She liked to watch the old westerns over again when she wasn’t watching a murder suspense show, but her favorite were the shows of Downton Abbey, which she subjected her family to watching with her on most Sunday afternoons, but her greatest passion was loving on her grandchildren and great grands every chance she could. She lived each day doing what she loved and found something to keep her mind busy.

A special thank you to Larry and Paula Patrick for being such good friends to Doris through the years. She really enjoyed their visits, and the gifts of books and food. And to the staff of NCCC and NRMC for taking care of our Mom and Mamaw. Doris was well taken care of to the very end. Everyone who met her thought very highly of her.

A graveside service honoring Doris’s life will be held on 10:00 a.m. Friday, September 18, 2026 at Spring Ridge Cemetery in Pleasant Hill, LA, with Bro. Chad James and Larry Patrick, speaking on behalf of the family and in remembrance of Doris. A visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Thursday, September 17, 2026 at Rose- Neath Mansfield Chapel, 943 Polk St. Mansfield, LA.
