Donald Chester Simmons
Donald Chester Simmons, Jr., went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, May 31, 2024, in Shreveport, Louisiana. Don was born on February 4, 1949, to Donald C. Simmons and Peggy Carroll Simmons, and grew up in Amarillo, Texas.
Don graduated from Tascosa High School in 1967 and graduated from the University of Texas in Austin with his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering degree in August 1971.
After graduating, he went to work for Texas Instruments in Austin. Don met his soon-to-be wife, Linda, in Austin. They married in November of 1972. Don was employed in sales for the burglar alarm company, ADT, in Dallas, Texas. Don then moved to Shreveport in 1977 to work for Foxboro Company, an industrial instrument business as salesman. In 1979 he started a successful burglar alarm business while continuing to work as a sales engineer. He owned and operated Shreveport Security Systems that is still in business 45 years later. In 2014, Don retired and sold the business to his son, Benjamin. Don was a long-time member of Trinity Heights Baptist Church, where he helped in the Youth Department and was an usher for many years. The game of golf was a passion. He enjoyed traveling, taking 4-day golf trips to various golf clubs around the country. Don was a good grandfather. Gloria loved her "Grandpa," and Benjamin Jr. and Lily loved their "Grandpa-GiGi."Don is preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Peggy Simmons. Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Linda Garcia Simmons; daughter, Whitney Simmons; grandchild, Gloria Simmons; son, Ben Simmons and wife, Claire; grandchildren, Benjamin and Lily Simmons; sister, Debby Petronis and husband, Joe; and numerous nieces and a nephew.
A graveside service for Don will be held on Wednesday, June 5, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Rose-Neath Cemetery, 5185 Swan Lake Rd., Bossier City, Louisiana. A visitation will be held Tuesday, June 4, 2024, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 2500 Southside Dr., Shreveport, Louisiana. Officiating the service will be Senior Pastor Scott Teutsch.
The family suggests memorials may be made to Trinity Heights Baptist Church, 3820 Old Mooringsport Rd., Shreveport, Louisiana 71107 or a charity of your choice.
