On the night of June 19, 2025, Donnie passed away peacefully after a lengthy illness. He was being visited and comforted by friends and family members at Cornerstone Specialty Hospital during his final days. He was 75 years old.
Donnie was born on March 21, 1950 in Plain Dealing, LA to the late Bert Oliver Impson and Ethelene Hilburn Harris.
Donnie lived an abundant life. He would often tell tales of his childhood adventures growing up in Plain Dealing with the best pals and siblings a kid could have. He enjoyed music, fishing, reading, genealogy, Bible study, gardening, and a good game of Scrabble. He was a living encyclopedia of baseball statistics, especially when it came to the Houston Astros. He committed himself to Christ at 6:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 10, 1988 and let that light shine throughout his life in countless ways from that point forward. Family, who lovingly call him “Papa D”, meant everything to him. He especially cherished time with his grandchildren and looked upon them with awe in his eyes. He loved life to the very end.
Donnie is survived and missed by his loving and devoted wife of nearly 48 years, Susan Impson; son, Jeff Impson (wife Candace); son, Matt Impson (wife Jacqui); daughter, Angie Impson; grandchildren, Victoria Impson (15), Logan Impson (14), and Dylan Impson (12); sisters, Kathy Moore (husband Don Moore) and Tina Hammett (husband Max Hammett).
Donnie is preceded in death by his father, Bert Oliver Impson; mother, Ethelene Hilburn Harris; bonus dad, Robert “Bob” Harris, Jr.; stepmother, Rachel Doss Impson; and brother, Robert "Bobby" Harris.
Honoring Donnie as pallbearers will be Lori Hawkins, Tabitha Jackson, John Ketchum, Louis Ketchum, Kelly LaGrone, and Christian Scott.
In lieu of flowers, Donnie’s wishes were for any memorials given in his honor to be made to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation (www.t2t.org) to support their Homeless Veteran Program.
Donnie’s family would like to give special thanks to the staff at Willis-Knighton Pierremont, Encompass Hospital, The Bradford Nursing Home, and Cornerstone Specialty Hospital for the special attention, care, and dignity shown to him in his final months, weeks, and days.
