SHREVEPORT, LA - Graveside Services for Donald Lloyd Clanton, 83, will be held at 12:30 p.m. Monday, October 1, 2018 at Forest Park Cemetery, St. Vincent Avenue, Shreveport, LA. Dr. Carl Rhodes of First United Methodist Church Shreveport will officiate. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. prior to the service at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 1815 Marshall Street, Shreveport, LA.
Donald was born May 9, 1935 in Shreveport, LA to Thelma Wardlow Clanton and Lloyd Carlisle Clanton and passed away September 26, 2018, in Shreveport, LA. He attended Southern Methodist University. Donald served in the United States Marine Corps and was a member of the Marine Corp golf team. Don was the owner of Clanton Lumber and was a Master Mason. After retiring from the family lumber business, Don started a second career in law enforcement for 15 years. He worked for more than 11 years with the Caddo Parish Sherriff's Office as Chief Pilot. The final four plus years were served with the Webster Parish Sheriff's Office. He retired from Webster Parish Sherriff's Department as a Lieutenant. He was a Master Mason with the Joppa Lodge, a member of the Quiet Birdmen Organization, and President of the Jaycees.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Louise Thoms Clanton, and sister, Barbara Jandera. Left to cherish his memory is his son, Daniel L. Clanton and wife Tommie; daughter, Donna Clanton Futrell and husband Gary; grandchildren, Kacie and Dustin Clanton and Julianne and Turner Futrell.
The family expresses their sincere appreciation to his caregivers, Dora Gilyard and Renea Dunking, also friends and family for all their care and compassion.
Honoring Donald as pallbearers will be Gary Futrell, Turner Futrell, Dustin Clanton, John Cullen, John Fulco, Mike Middleton and Dr. Bo Worley.
