Don Edman Spruell was born on June 12, 1947, in Shreveport, Louisiana, and he went home to be with Jesus on July 13, 2021, having finished His earthly race. Visitation will be held at South Bossier Baptist Church at 11:00 AM on Monday, July 19, 2021, followed by a service to celebrate his life and honor his memory at 12:00 p.m.
Don was a life-long outdoor enthusiast, spending many days fishing and hunting in Texas and Louisiana, resulting in a lifetime of stories that got better the more they were told. Don was very blessed to work for GE for 33 years, after proudly serving his country in Vietnam with the Air Force. His life was enriched greatly by the many church, work, and family relationships God blessed him with. During his lifetime, Don attended Grawood Baptist Church, Providence Road Baptist Church, South Bossier Baptist Church, and Calvary Baptist Church. He made life-long friends at each one of them.
Friends and family have described Don as godly, soft-spoken, kind, warm, generous, simply "a wonderful man," and he was all of those. Don passed along many experiences and life principles, and they will live on in those with whom he shared them. Having placed his faith in Jesus Christ at the age of 15, Don was confident that the Lord would call him home at the right time. Early Tuesday morning, Don got his call, took the trip of a lifetime, and received his eternal reward. In the midst of a terminal illness, Don counted his blessings and maintained a positive attitude. He lived well, loved deeply, and acknowledged the Lord's goodness to him throughout his life.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Johnie and Betty Spruell, his sister, Marilyn Spruell Clayton, his first wife, Doris Beck Spruell and his wife, Neely Joyce Spruell. He is survived by his brother, Larry Spruell, stepdaughter, Karla Stanford and husband, Sammy, stepson, Arthur Kline and wife, Debbie, and stepdaughter, Rachel Young and husband, Chris, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
The family is thankful to Don's pallbearers for their service: Tom Self, Landon Robin, Jody Baillio, Bill Jones, Kevin Dunn, and Richard Kelley. The family is thankful for the many family and friends who visited and prayed for him during his nearly 2-year long illness. Special thanks to Summer Robin, Shirley Carter, Nicole Clark, Eddie Owens, and Kristin Kline whose extreme kindness shone brightly during the darkest of days. Your kindness will never be forgotten.
Don was blessed in this life, and he is now experiencing eternal life which, according to the Apostle Paul, is far better. "I assure you: Anyone who hears My word and believes Him who sent Me has eternal life and will not come under judgment but has passed from death to life." John 5:24.
We will see you soon PawPaw!
