Dianne, affectionately known as Dede, was born in El Dorado, Arkansas on May 24, 1936 to Maurice and Gladys Ervin and passed away on Wednesday, September 1, 2021 in Shreveport, Louisiana, after a brief illness that was not Covid related. She grew up in Mansfield and was a proud Mansfield High graduate of 1954. She spent a brief stint in Baton Rouge but lived most of her adult years in Shreveport, which she considered home. She worked her entire life in the Oil and Gas industry. Starting out as a secretary and making her way up to a Certified Professional Landman, she broke gender barriers in a male-dominated field. People that knew her can attest to her professional tenacity, but also her willingness to help and mentor people.
In her later years she spent her free time volunteering for the Literacy Volunteers of America, serving on their Board of Directors. She recently served as the President of her Kings Crossing Homeowners Association. Dianne had a servant's heart and could be epitomized by her generous nature and giving soul. Her home was open to anyone and Dianne was a surrogate mother to everyone. Her wisdom, humor and good advice touched many people's lives. As an avid LSU and Saints fan, Dianne was always hosting game parties. She enjoyed nothing more than a trip to the "Casina" with her friends, although she rarely left the penny slots. Dianne is preceded in death by her parents and brother, Maurice Dean Ervin, Jr. She was a loving mother to her daughter, Elise Decoteau of Baton Rouge and her son, John Gatschenberger of Shreveport. She will be missed by her granddaughter, Elizabeth Gatschenberger, and countless friends who she considered her family. She served the Creator fiercely and was a lifetime member of the Unity Church of Shreveport, which she held dear to her heart. The church played an instrumental role in Dianne's spiritual journey.
The family cannot begin to express their immense thanks to the staff at Willis-Knighton and at the Post Acute Medical Center who took such good care of her.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials may be made to Literacy Volunteers of America, 2911 Centenary Blvd., Shreveport, LA 71104 or the Unity Church of Shreveport, 670 Stoner Ave, Shreveport, LA 71101.
