A memorial service for Dewey Clifton Thomas, 83, will be held on Friday, May 15, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 2201 Airline Dr., Bossier City, Louisiana. A visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. until the time of the service.
Dewey was born on November 24, 1942, to Ivy Winthrop Thomas and Opal Thomas in Springhill, Louisiana, and passed away on Sunday, May 10, 2026, in Bossier City, Louisiana.
Dewey was an avid outdoorsman who found peace and joy in nature. He loved fishing and hunting, and his appreciation for the outdoors was matched by his gift for growing things. With a true green thumb, he filled his home with houseplants that thrived under his care. For 51 years, he worked as a dedicated meat cutter, known for his skill, patience, and quiet strength. He was not only a gentleman but truly a gentle man — slow to anger, calm, hardworking, and kind beyond measure.
He loved his family deeply, both biological and adopted, and found contentment in the simple things in life. Dewey enjoyed watching cowboy shows and movies, keeping up with the news, and spending time in his favorite places — his hometown of Springhill and the peaceful Dorcheat Bottom. He was never concerned with material things; instead, he valued honesty, cleanliness, and the satisfaction of a job well done. Though he always wished for more education, he was remarkably smart and gifted with his hands. Children held a special place in his heart, and he always made time for them. Dewey’s gentle spirit, patience, and love for home will be remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
Dewey was preceded in death by his parents, Ivy Winthrop and Opal Thomas, and his sister, Margie Lee. Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife, Marian Thomas; children, Leigh Ann Read, Kelly Pennington, and husband, Jerry, Ken Bishop and wife, Donna, Joan Walker and husband, Kevin, and Holly McClendon; grandchildren, Haleigh Read, Katie Read, Devyn Pennington, and Jaime West; and great-grandchildren, Chandler Brooke West and Charli Beth West. Dewey is also survived by his sisters, Christene Shaver and Shirley McMurtry, and brothers, Harley, Dave, Gary, and Tracy Thomas
