Funeral services were held for Mr. Otis DeWayne Mills, age 65, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 405 East 5th Street, Homer, LA, on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, at 12:00 p.m., and Rev. Michael Brandon, officiated. Interment followed at Arlington Cemetery in Homer, LA. Visitation was at the funeral home from 11 a.m.-noon, prior to the service.
DeWayne was born August 20, 1960, in Shreveport, LA, to John Otis and Melvis Katherine Wynn Mills. He entered into peaceful rest on April 10, 2026, in Ruston, LA. DeWayne grew up in Homer with all his siblings. His nickname as a child was “Smiley” because he was always smiling. As an adult, he was given the name “Hollywood” because he was always telling stories while working with a landscaping company. DeWayne enjoyed playing X-box football games for pleasure. He was always a helper with other residents during his nursing home years. DeWayne never met a stranger and would even call them his friend before he even learned their name. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents; sister and brother-in-law, Katherine Ann Ward and Manuel Lee Ward; wife, Barbara Lynn Mills; brother Johnny Mills ;and sister-in-law, Diane Burns Mills.
He is survived by his sister, Tammie McCann and husband Gary of Ruston, LA; sister-in-law, Betty Mills of Homer, LA; a niece, April Fox and husband O’Neil; three nephews, Ragan McCann and wife Jamie, Steven Ward and wife Penny, and Michael Ward and wife Yvette; numerous grandnieces and grandnephews; a great-grandniece; along with other relatives and friends.
DeWayne’s family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Thompson of Bernice, Alpine Nursing and Rehab of Ruston, and Premier Hospice of Ruston, for the care and compassion shown him during his time of need.
Pallbearers were Steven Ward, Michael Ward, Ragan McCann, O’Neil Fox, William Norman, Austin Forney, Jonah Ward, and Daniel Fox.
Honoary pallbearers were Michael Shayne Ward and Isaiah Ward.
