Derrell R. Spurlock

Graveside services for Derrell Ray Spurlock age 87 will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 30, 2021 at Hurricane Cemetery in Athens, Louisiana. Officiating will be Bro. Bob Jameson. Visitation will be held at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Arcadia Friday, January 29, 2021 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Derrell was born January 14, 1934 to James William and Lorene Greer Spurlock in Hurricane, Louisiana and passed away January 25, 2021 in Ruston Louisiana. He is preceded in death by his parents, James "Jay" W. Spurlock and Lorene Greer Spurlock, and son-in-law Vick Gantt. Derrell leaves behind his brothers, Carroll Spurlock and wife Shelby, Ricky Spurlock and wife Trisha, sisters, Teresa Owens and husband Wayne, Debbie Price and husband Frank, children, Stephanie Gantt, Derrell Ray Spurlock II and wife Chris, Todd Spurlock and wife Tricia, Suzanne Newell and husband Danny, Jennifer Simpson and husband Brett, Ashley Eulate and husband Shayne, his grandchildren, Rance Gantt, Chance Gantt, Chip Spurlock, Emily Spurlock Porter, Rudi Spurlock, Colton Spurlock, Cade Spurlock, Carsin Spurlock, Trent Newell, Carli Newell Kostan, Morgan Simpson Hollingsworth, Chaise Simpson, Kameron Simpson, Jace Eulate and 23 great grandchildren. Derrell was employed by the Louisiana Army and Ammunition Plant for 48 years. He was a faithful member of Emmanuel Baptist Church and served as president of the Hurricane Cemetery Board for many years. He loved riding and taking care of his horses, he always had a special way with animals. Derrell was a devoted family man, and his greatest joy was his grandchildren. He took great pride in attending any activity they participated in, especially basketball games. Pallbearers will be his 8 grandsons, Rance Gantt, Chance Gantt, Chip Spurlock, Rudi Spurlock, Colton Spurlock, Cade Spurlock, Trent Newell and Jace Eulate. Honorary pallbearers will be Dale Halverson and Tommy Davidson.
