Dennis "Pop Pop" Mark Chauvin left to walk with the Lord on June 20, 2021.
Dennis was born on December 22, 1953 in Lafayette, Louisiana. A graduate of Southeastern Louisiana University with a Bachelors in Speech and Communication, he was a Collegiate National Debate Champion and State Choir member. Dennis was the owner of Camm Sales and Innovation and a natural salesman. He was a published author under the surname of Nonc Patout, sharing his love for the Cajun culture. Dennis enjoyed cooking, hunting, fishing, inventing, patent writing, illustrating and playing music. He could blow a mean Harp, often carrying his harmonica with him should an opportunity present itself.
Dennis is a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church where he served as a member of the Church Council for several years. He was also a Member of the Knights of Columbus Council #3779.
Dennis is preceded in death by his father, Albert J. Chauvin Sr., his mother Elizabeth "Irene" Leblanc Chauvin and his sisters Karla Chauvin Musk and Charlotte Chauvin.
Dennis is survived by his wife of 43 years and love of his life, Mary Collen Corkern Chauvin; his son, Andrew Mark Chauvin and his wife, Rene Ballay Chauvin; his daughter, Melissa Chauvin Moore and her husband, Douglas "BFF" Moore; his son, Christopher Robert Chauvin and his wife, Meli "Dinga-Dinga" Chauvin. Dennis is also survived by his grandchildren, the joys of his life, Nicolas Isaac Gureasko, Naomi Lynn Chauvin, Gavin Thomas Chauvin, Evan Mark Chauvin, Elizabeth Anne Moore, James Andrew Moore and John Patrick Moore. He is also survived by his brothers, Albert Chauvin Jr. and his wife, Charlene Chauvin, Ronnie Chauvin and his wife, Barbara Chauvin, Steven Chauvin and his wife, Dianna Chauvin; and his sister, Amy Chauvin. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and many friends that he considered family.
Dennis found many joys in life, always quick with a joke and a smile. His sense of humor brought joy to those around him. He was a loving husband, a wonderful father and a giving man. He met no strangers and found solace spending time with his children and grandchildren. Dennis found peace in nature whether it was in his backyard, on his boat fishing or in a cabin in the woods with his wife. He also enjoyed finding "trouble" with his grandson Nick, cooking with granddaughter Naomi, cutting up with the Naders, Pumpkin, Jamesey Boy and Johnny Boy. He was a great story teller and orator. He also enjoyed advocating for the handicapped as well as assisting those serving in the military.
Visitation and Funeral Mass will be held at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Shreveport on Monday, July 5, 2021. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. with the Funeral Mass starting at 11:00 a.m. Officiating the mass will be Father John Paul Crispin. Dennis will be laid to rest at the Ponchatoula Cemetery in Ponchatoula, LA.
