Dennis Wayne Johnston (D.W.)

Dennis Wayne Johnston (D.W.), 78, of Waskom, Texas, passed away on September 3, 2025. He was born on October 12, 1946, in Shreveport to Earnest Richard Johnston and LaNee Frasier Johnston.

D.W. graduated from Woodlawn High School in 1964 and went on to dedicate 39 years of service to SWEPCO before retiring. He was known for his love of traveling with his devoted wife, Edith, his passion for gardening, and the joy he found in supporting his grandson Austin’s travel ball games.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his father-in-law, James Creel; and his mother-in-law, Geneva Kirkley.

D.W. is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Edith Creel Johnston; his daughter, Cheryl Southerland and husband Steve; grandson, Austin Morris and fiancée Taryn Constable; and great-granddaughters, Keely and Penelope Morris. He also leaves behind his sister, Janice Johnston; brother, Tommy Johnston and wife Betty; as well as numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the Critical Care and Step Down nurses, as well as the ER staff at Willis-Knighton North, for their compassionate care. Special thanks also to the many physicians involved in D.W.’s treatment.

A private service will be held at a later date.
