Ms. Delilah Ann Darden, age 73, of Shreveport, LA, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, March 2, 2026, at Willis Knighton Bossier Hospital after a brief illness. She was born on November 6, 1952, in Monroe, LA, to the late Ellie Elbert, “E.E.” Darden, and Bessie M. Hines Darden.
Delilah was awarded a full music scholarship to attend NLU (Northeast Louisiana University), currently University of Louisiana at Monroe, after graduating from Wossman High School in 1970. She obtained a B.M.ED.(Bachelor of Music Education) degree in 1974 and an M.M.ED. (Master of Music Education) degree in 1976. She was a lifetime member of the Delta Omicron Professional Music Sorority – Omicron Epsilon Alumni, NLU chapter.
Delilah specialized in Instrumental Band and Orchestra with emphasis on strings (violin, viola, cello, bass, guitar). For over 40+ years, Delilah taught strings to elementary students. Delilah taught for four years in the Baton Rouge Parish and three years in the Lafayette Parish public school systems before moving to Shreveport in 1983 to teach in the Caddo Parish public school system until her retirement in 2021.
Delilah’s ability to make learning music fun and meaningful left a lasting impact; several of her former students followed in her footsteps, becoming professional musicians and music teachers because of the joy she brought to them through music. Delilah never turned a student away and many times spent extra effort working with students with disabilities.
Delilah is survived by her son, Adam Reza Golkar; grandchildren, Natalie Golkar, Adam Golkar, Jr., and Easton Golkar. She is also survived by her sister, Sarah Beth Mason of Justin, Texas, and nephews, Isaac Mason, Wyatt Mason, and Jesse Mason.
She leaves behind special friends Diane Waldon, Honey Pijanowski, and Rickey Denler.
Delilah was a classically trained violinist, having played in both the Monroe Symphony Orchestra and the Shreveport Symphony Orchestra. In addition, she was a member of the Scottish Society of the Louisiana Highlands, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting awareness of the Scottish culture and heritage in the Ark-La-Tex. She was an avid “fiddler” and entertained many over the years with her fiddle playing at Christmas parties, summer BBQs, and the Scottish Tartan Festival, where she helped with the genealogy booth and T-shirt sales. She had a great interest in genealogy and tracked the family lineage back several hundred years. Delilah loved to attend outdoor festivals and events sporting her full Scottish Tartan attire and accessories. She especially loved Highland cows and was known to raise a Highland cow or two in her backyard.
Delilah also played violin with her friends in several local bluegrass circles and will be deeply missed by all the musicians who knew and loved her. When not playing her violin, Delilah could be found planting flowers in her yard and sewing.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, April 11th at 11:00 AM at Kilpatrick’s Rose-Neath Marshall Street Chapel, 1815 Marshall St, Shreveport, LA, 71101, with Deacon Willie Crowder and Kat Arnold officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Delilah’s name to an organization of choice.
