David Lester Monk, known and loved by so many as "Pops," passed away on April 8, 2026 at the age of 67. Born on August 10, 1958, David spent his life in Homer, Louisiana, building not just a living, but a life full of love, laughter, and unforgettable memories.
David was the devoted husband of Teresa Monk, his wife of nearly 50 years and the love of his life. Their bond was something truly special. He never liked being away from her for long, and anyone who knew them could see that their love was the kind of love story people hope for but rarely find.
He was the proud father to Jason Monk and Brandi Monk, but his greatest joy in life was being "Pops." His grandchildren--Addison,Kyler, Brody, Bryce, Emma, Presleigh, Titus and his wife Zoe--and great grandchild Nevaeh were the light of his life. He rarely missed a game, moment, or an opportunity to cheer them on. No matter where they were, he was their biggest fan, their loudest supporter, and their constant presence.
David made his living as a chicken farmer, but making a living for his family was only part of who he was. What truly defined him was his heart. He loved deeply, gave freely, and showed up for people without hesitation. He would help anyone, anytime, no questions asked.
He had a personality that could fill any room--loud, unfiltered, and full of life. He met every situation with a smile and a joke, even when times were hard. If you knew him, you loved him and had a funny story to tell. He made people laugh, made people feel welcome, and made ordinary moments unforgettable. There will definitely never be another quite like him.
He was preceded in death by his parents William Meadows Monk and Julia Earlene Collums, his sister Linda Monk Casciola, and brother John "Butchie" Monk. He is survived by his brother Gary "Bodie" Monk and wife Debbie, and brother and sister in law Jerry and Pam Simpson, along with numerous nieces and nephews and countless friends whose lives are better because they knew him.
David "Pops" Monk was one of a kind. He was deeply loved, and he will be truly missed. If you ever heard a loud laugh, a quick joke, or someone cheering the loudest in the stands, you knew Pops was nearby. He loved big, he lived loud, and he never let the people he loved forget it. We will carry that love with us forever and we will keep laughing at all his stories just like he would have wanted.
Funeral services will be held for David at Calvary Baptist Church, 1993 Hwy 3062, Homer, LA, on Sunday, April 12, 2026, at 2:00 p.m., with Rev. Steve Beard, officiating. Interment will be at Arlington Cemetery in Homer, LA. Visitation will be at the church from 1-2 p.m., prior to the service.
