A visitation will be held Thursday, March 31, 2022 from 12:30-1:30 at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 2500 Southside Drive in Shreveport prior to the service at 2:00 p.m. Officiating the service will be Father James Yazell.
David was born on March 3, 1939 in Shreveport, Louisiana to Fred Wayland Calhoun and Miriam Adeline Wilson and passed away on Sunday, March 20, 2022 in Shreveport.
David was a resident of Shreveport, Louisiana. Post college, David enlisted in the United States Navy and attended OTS in Newport, Rhode Island. As an officer, he then completed flight school and served as a helicopter pilot in the Vietnam War. His final post was in Madrid, Spain working for the US Embassy as the pilot for the US ambassador.
An avid golfer and hunter, some of David's fondest memories are from golf trips with his wife and friends, his men's group at East Ridge Country Club, and his years at the hunting lease at Hilltop.
David also very much enjoyed taking his family out on sunset cruises on Toledo Bend where him and his wife built their lake house. When not on the boat, you could find David sitting on the porch with his binoculars watching the birds and naming them off.
He had a charismatic charm and sense of humor, always making whoever was in his company smile. He will be greatly missed and forever loved by his family and friends.
David is preceded in death by his parents. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 59 years, Charlotte Pate Calhoun; daughter, Kimberly Wilmore and husband, James; grandchildren, Megan Doucet and husband, Michael and Taylor Wilmore; and brother, Richard Wayland Calhoun of Palm Springs, California.
The family suggests memorials may be made to St. James Episcopal Church or the charity of their choice.
