If you knew David Fetty, you knew a friend. He never met a stranger, loved to cook for family and friends, and found joy in good food, good music, and good company. Whether sharing a meal, telling a story, or enjoying the sights and sounds of New Orleans, David had a gift for making people feel welcome.
David Allen Fetty, age 84, passed away peacefully on May 13, 2026. Born on March 4, 1942, in San Diego, California, David lived a life filled with adventure, hard work, friendship, and a deep appreciation for family and life's simple pleasures.
David was born in San Diego, California, to Herbert and Alta Mae Fetty. His father passed away when David was very young.
David proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from 1961 to 1966. While stationed in Seville, Spain, he met Rebeccah Maden, who would become his wife and the mother of his children. Though their marriage eventually ended, they remained friends and shared a mutual love for their family. David never remarried.
A determined and hardworking man, David worked as a waiter and later as a restaurant manager while pursuing higher education. Through dedication and perseverance, he earned both his undergraduate degree and a master's degree in Child Psychology from Louisiana State University in Shreveport. Following his studies, he spent many years serving the citizens of New Orleans through his work with New Orleans Parish.
Although he lived in several places throughout his life, New Orleans always held a special place in David's heart. He loved everything the city had to offer—the live music drifting through the streets, the incredible food, the vibrant parades, and the unique spirit that made the city unlike any other. New Orleans was more than a place to him; it was home.
David was known for his warm personality and genuine kindness. He cherished his many friendships and enjoyed the company of others, leaving a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
An accomplished cook, he found great joy in preparing meals for family and friends. He also enjoyed Saints football, Mardi Gras festivities, travel, and music, embracing every opportunity to celebrate life and bring people together.
David is survived by his children, Melinda Fetty Osborne; Nora Fetty Milner and her husband, Michael Milner; and Brett Fetty and his wife, Rachal Garner Fetty. He was a proud grandfather to Daniel Osborne, Nickolas Osborne, Derrick Milner, Lauren Milner Schaller and her husband, Kyle Schaller; Taylor Gile and her husband, Dale Gile; McKaylee Fetty Cornet and her husband, Chase Cornet; and Kinsley Fetty.
