A graveside service will be held for Mr. David Jerome Butts, Sr., age 79, at Lebanon Cemetery near Homer, LA, on Friday, June 24, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Tim Pruitt, officiating. A memorial service to honor the life of Mr. Butts will also be held Friday evening at Evening Light Tabernacle at 6:00 p.m. Visitation will be at the Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Homer, LA, on Thursday, from 5-7 p.m.
Mr. Butts was born October 1, 1942, in Hollandale, MS, to Jerome L. and Mary Louise Bagley Butts. He entered into rest on Monday, June 20, 2022, in Haynesville, LA. Mr. Butts served his Lord as a deacon at Evening Light Tabernacle for 38 years. He served his country in the Army National Guard from 1963-1970 active duty and two years inactive duty. He liked to show off his knowledge of the Choctaw language by saying, “Achvffa, tuklo, tuchina, ushta, tahlapi, hannlai, untuklo, untuchina, chakkali, pokkoli.” Mr. Butts was a devoted son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend.
Mr. Butts was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Karen Pruitt; and a brother, Kenneth Stanley Butts.
He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Linda Farmer Butts; three sons, David Jerome Butts, II, and wife Alana of Minden, LA, Stephen Thomas Butts and wife Kori of Laurel, MT, and Benjamin Marrion Butts of Haynesville, LA; three daughters, Lori Tushner and husband Jeff of Haynesville, Denise Hamilton and husband George of Haynesville, and Elizabeth Grace Butts of Haynesville; a sister Dennette Pruitt and husband Dan of Haynesville; four brothers, Ronnie Butts and wife Tilda of Ocilla, GA, John Butts and wife Mary of Mobile, AL, Rodney Butts of Fort Smith, AR, and Tim Butts and wife Nancy of Bossier City, LA; brother-in-law, Tim Pruitt; twelve grandchildren; two great-granddaughters; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Mr. Butts’ family would like to express special thanks and much gratitude to Dr. Salmon, Dr. Koticha, as well as Regional Hospice and their staffs for the care and compassion shown him and the family during his final days.
Pallbearers will be Cody Williams, Andrew Tushner, Jeremy Butts, Wesley Butts, Joshua Butts, and Matthieu Butts.
Honorary pallbearers will be Kenneth Middleton and Jerry Roncali.
In lieu of flowers honoring Mr. Butts. his family suggests memorials be made to the Evening Light Tabernacle.
