Darlus Sue Chandler Kilpatrick, 77, passed away peacefully on Thanksgiving morning, Thursday, November 27, 2025, after a lengthy illness of dementia… “the long goodbye.” She was born on February 24, 1948, in Shreveport, Louisiana, to the late Billy Clark Chandler and Pearl Weaver Chandler.
A memorial service for Darlus Sue Chandler Kilpatrick will be held on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 2201 Airline Dr., Bossier City, Louisiana. A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Officiating the service will be Reverend Karen L. Rogers.
She is survived by her husband, the love of her life for almost six decades, Robert Kilpatrick, and by her only child, her daughter that she adored, “K.C.” Kaye Celeste Kilpatrick, along with two grandchildren who were the light of her life, Hallie-Stella Kilpatrick Stone and Jayden-Roland Kilpatrick Stone.
Darlus was the middle daughter in her family, and is also survived by her sisters, Sunda Chandler Harrist and Cindy Chandler Opperman, as well as her brother-in-law, Steve Opperman. She leaves behind lifelong friends and loving extended family, including Russell Harrist and wife, Tracy, Richard Harrist, Robert Harrist and wife, Julie, Randell Harrist, Judy Harrist Olson, Creighton Dement & Gerrit, Jacob Dement and Heather Crask, Tyler Kimbell, Joe Kilpatrick and wife, Amy, Katie Kilpatrick Hooper and husband, Wade Hooper.
She loved and adored her nieces and nephews and was also blessed with 16 great-nieces and great-nephews.
Darlus was a proud 1965 graduate of Bossier High School and went on to graduate from Louisiana Tech University in 1971 with a degree in Business. Her schooling began as a four-year-old first grader at Pleasant Hall Private School in Shreveport.
Her career spanned many years and several fields, including insurance, specialty advertising, landscaping, and upscale jewelry sales. She built long-standing relationships with clients and co-workers and was known for her kindness, warmth, and ability to make people feel welcome.
Darlus was an active and longstanding member of Broadmoor Presbyterian Church in Shreveport, Louisiana, where she found joy and purpose as a volunteer with The Women of the Church.
She was a gardener at heart, happiest among flowers, English roses, and Louisiana shade. She created beautiful, blooming yards for decades. In 1997, she fulfilled a dream and traveled to the famous Chelsea Flower Show in London, England.
She loved reading and, before her illness, could often be found browsing or relaxing at the public library. She especially loved traveling with Robert to cooler places during hot Louisiana summers, going treasure-shopping, and collecting antiques and ruby glass.
The family is GRATEFUL for 77 years of her well-lived and loved life with the care and support from their “Framily”, and the last year of assistance from Shreveport Manor and Bristol Hospice Team in her transition to heaven.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that you just plant them instead, and also, please just help someone in need and or give to a charity of your choice.
