It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Cynthia “Cindy” Hunt Murray. Our Lord called her home on July, 19, 2025 at the age of 76. She passed away at Christus Highland Medical Hospital in Shreveport, LA, after another battle with cancer. She fought such a brave, courageous fight but this terrible disease was too much for her body to endure. Our Lord has healed her, she is free of pain and now she has a seat next to our Father in Heaven for eternity.
Cindy was born on November 7, 1948, in Haynesville, LA to Farnum Sidney Hunt and Mary Baucum Hunt. She is a proud alumni of Haynesville High School, where she sang soprano in the girls singing group called The Melodies. She was part of the National Honors Society and graduated 10th in her class. After high school she attended Louisiana Tech University in Ruston, Louisiana and went on to earn a bachelor's degree in business. She worked at Arkla Gas Company, which is where she met the love of her life, Dennis Murray. They married on November 3, 1973 at Kings Highway Christian Church. She dedicated many years of her professional life to the Caddo Public Defender's Office. She served there as Office Manager forming lifetime friendships she held dearly in her heart and retired from their office leaving with grace and integrity.
Cindy was an incredible mother who loved her two daughters dearly, a devoted wife, and a friend you wanted in your corner. She was a woman of deep warmth who always shared wisdom in times you needed it the most. She encompassed a quiet strength and presented courage each time she overcame an obstacle this life threw her way. She has instilled those traits into her daughters and grandchildren, to which she expressed an unconditional love every chance she got. She was generous with her love and intelligent in so many ways. Her happiest moments were being surrounded by those she loved, making sweet memories every time they got a chance to all be together. Whether it was cheering on her LSU Tigers she loved fiercely - she rarely missed a game, playing an intense game of monopoly around the kitchen table or piecing together a puzzle - that may or may not have a hidden piece throughout the house. She cherished every moment made and never took them for granted. She had this amazing green thumb when it came to planting and making her flower beds beautiful, which she has passed down to her two daughters and now grandson. The only part she didn’t necessarily love was the weeding. That was Dennis’s job and she made sure to keep him busy along with other “Honey Do’s” around the house. Getting the porch painted has been an ongoing joke for years and maybe now she can help with the “perfect” weather to get it done. Cindy also enjoyed watching her birds. Whether her and Dennis were sitting on the back patio while hummingbirds flew by or peeking out of the bay windows, seeing them brought her joy as they came back year after year to visit the many bird feeders that filled their back yard. One of her happiest days was when her grandson Maverick Adam Smith was born and becoming our CiCi. She looked forward to going to his T-ball games, teaching him the ways around a flower bed, which he has already grown to love and seeing him grow into such a smart and caring little boy. Her love of putting puzzles together has also been instilled into Maverick and he will always remember her love for birds each time we fill up the feeders at our home. We miss her so much already but grateful that we received 22 years with her. They were filled with so much love, so many memories and jokes shared. There will never be a day that goes by we won’t think of her and smile and remember the love she gave to so many, the heart she shared with each of us and the blessings God gave us by putting her in our lives.
Cindy’s legacy of love, generosity, kindness and loyalty will live on in the hearts of all who knew and adored her. She was the center of her family. She will be intensely missed and we mourn her loss, however we celebrate a life well-lived, and a woman who was brave, courageous and loved beyond words. Thank You Lord for Your many blessings and for all that is to come.
Left to cherish her memory is her loving husband of 51 years, Dennis William Murray; and her daughters, Rachel Murray Smith, husband Josh and grandson, Maverick Adam Smith, Stacey Lynne Boothe, husband Heath and stepdaughters, Kinlee, Kristen and Kelly Booth; her best friend and sister, Sue Hunt Frye and husband, David; as well as her sister-in-law, Gaynel Neyrey Hunt. She also has numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who will forever cherish what a kind-hearted, courageous woman she was and always will be in their hearts. They will carry on her legacy for many years to come.
Cindy was preceded in death by her beloved son, Jeffrey William Murray; her parents, Farnum Sidney Hunt and Mary Baucum Hunt, and her precious brother, Dr. William Sidney Hunt.
Her life will be honored and celebrated with a visitation at Rose-Neath Funeral Home - Southside Chapel, 2500 Southside Drive, Shreveport, LA 71118 on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held at the same location on Thursday, July 24, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. This will be followed by a graveside service at Forest Park Cemetery West, 4000 Meriwether Road, Shreveport, LA 71109. The family would like to express their deepest appreciation to Dr. Robert J. Massingill “Dr. Bob” who cared for our precious Mama with such a kindness and compassionate heart that any family could ever need during a time like this. His intelligence and patience he possesses truly make him one of a kind and we thank God for placing him in our lives. We would also like to extend thanks to the Christus Cancer Center and Grace Hospice Home for giving so much attention and care to our Mama. To the many nurses, radiologists, administrative staff members, technicians and everyone in between who cared for her, thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Your dedication to patients and their families during their worst moments in life are worth acknowledgment and we are thankful for the work you all do day in and day out.
