Mrs. McConathy went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Monday, March 7, 2022,her 89th birthday. Corene was born in 1933, in Simsboro, Louisiana to William Brian Floyd and Lucille Traylor Floyd. She spent most of her formative years in Arcadia, Louisiana, where she graduated from Arcadia High School. She then attended Louisiana Tech University before meeting the love of her life, John R. McConathy. Corene and John married in 1954 and moved to Bossier City in 1956, where they built their life together. They were members of First Baptist Church, where Corene served faithfully in the Children's Sunday School ministry for over 40 years. Corene and John served the Bossier City community for many years. She was John's constant rock through his many years of community leadership. Together, Corene and John were avid supporters of NSU Demon Basketball. Corene was a kind and compassionate friend to many.

Her quiet, humble spirit was one to admire. She always considered the needs of others before her own. She was an amazing cook, confidant, and caregiver. She treasured every minute spent with her family and was celebrated for the Sunday lunches she prepared for them each week after church. Her grits, roast and gravy, fried chicken, dumplings, cornbread, sweet pickles, pound cake, lemon dessert, apple dumplings, and her sweet tea are all family favorites. Her greatest passions in this life were knowing and sharing the love of Jesus, her family, her church and her friends. Her children and grandchildren are overwhelmed with gratitude that God would give them a Mama and Mimi who would lead them to Jesus.

Corene was preceded in death by her loving husband of 61 years, John R. McConathy; her parents and brothers, Joe Billy Floyd and Jackie Floyd. She leaves behind to carry on her legacy her sons Mike McConathy and wife, Connie of Natchitoches, Bill McConathy and wife, Anne of Haughton and Pat McConathy and wife, Suanne of Bossier City; daughter, Melinda McConathy Guest and husband, Greg, of Bossier City; eleven grandchildren, Michael McConathy and wife, Lindsey, Logan McConathy and wife, Lyndzee, Jessica McConathy Beseau and husband, Josh, Emily McConathy Hollis and husband, Josh, Claire McConathy Porter and husband, Rufus, Josh Guest and wife, Tiffany, Paxson Guest and wife, Lakyn, Parker Guest, Jacob Guest, Kyle McConathy and Connor McConathy; 14 great-grandchildren; sister, Dianne Floyd Jones; sister-in-law, Terry McConathy and many nieces and nephews.
