Connie, 81 years of age, passed away on Friday, September 12, 2025, at home, with her soulmate and daughters at her side.
Connie was born on March 24, 1944 in Starke, Florida to Lawson Grigg and Charlotte DeWeese Grigg. During her grade school years, her family moved to Winn Parish, more affectionately known as Ward 10, where she was raised with her three sisters. She graduated from Calvin High School in Calvin, Louisiana and continued friendships with her fellow classmates throughout the years. Her love in tenderly caring for others was fostered while she worked at a nursing home and these skills developed into her enrolling in the nursing program at Northwestern State College in Natchitoches, Louisiana in the fall of 1962. Following her graduation with a Registered Nursing degree (RN-BSN), she worked for the Veteran’s Affairs Hospital (VA Hospital) in surgery. But motherhood burned a new desire, and she made a decision to do what mother’s do best, to lovingly take care of her three daughters at home. As time passed, she was blessed to help care for her nieces’, nephews, and later her grandchildren, making so many precious memories for them to cherish.
Connie was a “country girl” that moved to the city. She loved sharing stories of sweeping dirt in the woods of her childhood home, keeping her sisters in line and recalling her deep love for her mother, father and grannie. She was a member of the girls’ basketball team in high school, loved fishing, and traveling with family and friends, such as going on Winter Retreats to Colorado with the youth ministry at church. Out of all of that, snowshoeing was her favorite. Throughout her life, she demonstrated the perfect example of service, participating in numerous church ministries and forming great friendships, including singing at various nursing homes and sharing her nurturing skills with babies in the church nursery. She and her husband were involved in a thriving bus ministry, cooked meals for outreach, and hosted many large gatherings of singles in their home. Additionally, Connie became a talented “country” cook and generously shared her recipes in great detail with family and friends.
Known for both her inner and outer beauty, Connie was often teased by her daughters for her many high school boyfriends. However, it was her husband of 60 years, Carroll Floyd, who won her heart. Drawn by his voice, she couldn’t resist his charm. He carried her books on the first day they met, and since her first battle with cancer 35 years ago, he has carried her purse as a symbol of his unwavering support.
Connie was preceded in death by her parents, Lawson and Charlotte Grigg; her sister, Brenda Zastrow and her lovely daughter, Yvette Floyd.
She is survived by her husband, Carroll Floyd; daughters, Alana Faktor and husband, Charles, Stacy Scott and husband, Breck; her grandchildren, Garrett Faktor and wife, Katie, Payne Faktor, Adeline Faktor, Lawson Scott and wife, Reagan, Sumner Scott, Owen Scott, Zachary Clary and wife, Sidney, Luke Slabaugh and wife, Emily and ten and counting great- grandchildren, Bear, Sunday and Cecelia Faktor, Genevieve, Maeve and Millie Clary, Warren and Callum Scott, and Eloise and Lucy Slabaugh, as well as a host of many beloved nieces and nephews. Connie is also survived by her sisters, Sharon Netherton and husband, Buster, and Linda Howard.
