Cody Welborn

Cody Welborn

Cody Lee Welborn, 42, passed away after a hard-fought battle with cancer on September 25, 2024 at his home, where he was surrounded by his loved ones.

Cody Welborn was born on February 16, 1982, in Shreveport, Louisiana and raised in Stanley, Louisiana. He is preceded in death by his granddaughter, Novalee Rose Welborn, and his stepfather, Grady Morris.

He is survived by his wife, Carla Hollis Welborn; son, Brayden Welborn (Allie); daughter, Jade Graves; granddaughter, Lillian Welborn, affectionately known as “PawPaw’s Girl”; mother, Jeannie Gallaspy Morris; father, David Welborn Sr. (Traci); brothers, David Welborn Jr. (Amanda) and Trent Welborn (Ashley); twin sister, Jody Rogers (Derreck); sister, Allison Welborn Simmons (Christian); nieces, Kaitlan Early (Dillon), Emily Early (Brandon), Alyssa Chamberlin (Pat), Madison Welborn, Claudia Welborn, Autumn Welborn, Rose Simmons, and Lilly Simmons; nephews, Peyton Rogers, Logan Rogers, and Wyatt Welborn; stepsiblings; and multiple great nieces and nephews.

Upon first meeting Cody, you would likely notice his good humor and quick wittedness before anything else. His positive outlook and swiftness with a pun helped the time pass on even the longest days, making him a sought-after friend and coworker in the 20+ years he dedicated to his career in the oil field. He was a hard worker in this and every aspect of his life - a truly dedicated friend, son, brother, husband, and father.

This unwavering loyalty was present in not only his relationships, but in his commitment to the things he loved. Cody was an avid lover of golf, the guitar (which he learned to play only after being told that he was too old to do so), driving trucks, and all things sports. He was a particularly committed fan of the LSU Tigers, the New Orleans Saints, and of his Alma Mater, the Stanley Panthers (some of which, he would likely agree, made loyalty difficult at times).

Cody’s curiosity about the world gave him the rare ability to hold a conversation with nearly anyone about anything. You sometimes got the sneaking suspicion that he had notecards tucked into his sleeves, a list of seemingly random facts (song meanings, historical biographies, movie quotes) that fit perfectly into any conversation. Cody simply had an openness and excitement about the world that made him deeply, truly interested in the things and people he surrounded himself with. It was this open heartedness that allowed him to fit so seamlessly into the Hollis family, who will forevermore think of him as one of their own.

While we will remember Cody as a humorous, dedicated, and curious person, we will also remember him as a devoted father and husband. To his family, he was not only a man full of wonder and kindness, but one who enveloped those he loved in laughter, and who wrapped them in light when they found it difficult to do so themselves. He will be forever remembered for the warmth and positivity that he brought into the lives of all those who loved him.

A special thank you to Carrie Jo Moton, Larissa Arbuckle with Heart of Hospice, Dr. Veluvolu and the staff at WKN Cancer Center, Dr. Javle and the staff at MD Anderson, Pump Down Specialist LLC, and to the community who stood beside Cody and his family during this time.
