Clyde David Hood

HOMER, LA: A memorial service was held for Mr. Clyde "David" Hood, age 77, at First Presbyterian Church of Homer on Saturday, December 18, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend John McClelland officiating. The family received friends at the church on Saturday from 10:00-11:00 a.m. prior to the service. David was born on April 5, 1944, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Clyde Dewey and Juanita Reed Hood. He entered into Heaven on Sunday, December 12, 2021, in Shreveport, Louisiana. David was preceded in death by his parents; brother, John Dewey Hood; and infant sister, Judy Ann Hood. He is also predeceased by his wife's parents: James Walter Shepherd and Myrtle Ruth Shepherd. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Barbara Jean Shepherd Hood; son, James Dewey Hood of Homer, Louisiana; sisters Barbara Campbell, husband Jerry, of Bossier City, Louisiana; Kathleen Broderick, husband Tim, of Bossier City, Louisiana; and aunt, Billie Jane Tallman, husband Ernie, of Kansas City, Missouri. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends will also dearly miss David. David was a 1962 graduate of Bossier High School, Bossier City, Louisiana. He earned a bachelor's degree in 1968 from Louisiana Tech University, Ruston, Louisiana, in Animal Husbandry. He met Barbara while in college at Tech. He worked for 28 years on the Hill Farm in Homer as a Research Associate, both with cattle and in forestry, until his retirement in 2005. David loved to read and hunt. If he didn't have a book in his hands, he was often in the woods. He won first prize (more than once) in local craft shows for his exquisite wood carvings. David served on the Boards of the Ford Museum and the Presbyterian Village of Homer. He was especially proud of his involvement with the Claiborne Parish 4-H Outdoor Skills and Shooting Sports as the pistol coach. David was also an ordained elder for the Presbyterian Church, being ordained in 1992. The Masonic Lodges were also part of David's life. He was a Master Mason and a member of Homer Lodge #152 for 35 years. At times, he held plural membership with Athens Lodge #136. David served as Worshipful Master of Homer Lodge #152 for two consecutive years. He held several other offices in both lodges, including serving a Chaplain for four years. David was also a Shriner. Honorary pallbearers were brothers-in-law: James Shepherd, Michael Shepherd, Nelson Shepherd, John David Shepherd, Jerry Campbell, and Tim Broderick. The family would like to extend a thank you to the following doctors of Christus Schumpert Highland Hospital: Dr. Karanam, Dr. Green, Dr. Zabaneh, and Dr. Koticha, as well as, the nursing staff and P.A. Amy Fontenot. A special thank you is extended to Dr. Sam Abshire of Homer/Haynesville. In lieu of flowers honoring David, his family suggests that a plant be sent or memorials be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Homer or a charity of the donor's choice. Interment will be at Arlington Cemetery in Homer at a later date. David was an active member of his family, church, and community. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him
