Reverend Chris Wilcutt and Tim Tipton will officiate. Interment will follow at the Social Springs Cemetery in Hall Summit at 2:30 p.m. The family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, December 5 at Grawood Baptist Church and extends its gratitude to all those who supported us and cared for Christine over the last several years.
Christine was born on December 29, 1933 in her home in Hall Summit, Louisiana to Emory and Ruth Culverhouse Woodard. She was the baby, the youngest of the couple’s nine children. She lived a rich 90 years before going to heaven on December 3, 2024. She is survived by her four children—Mike Bogan (Tania), Donna McCary (Bo), Steve Bogan (Julie), and Randy Bogan (Kim)—thirteen grandchildren—Beau Bogan (Angie), Brittany Lewis (Tyler), Bud Bogan (Meagan), Brandi Burns (Steven), Joel Bogan (Heather), Whitney Bogan, Jordan Bogan, Mallory Bogan, Melanie Gates (Adam), Mandi Jones (Nathan), Amber Casiquin, Brock Myers, and Britain Myers—thirty-four great grandchildren, two great, great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Her pallbearers will be Beau Bogan, Bud Bogan, Joel Bogan, Adam Gates, Nathan Jones, and Tyler Lewis. And her great grandsons and the Deacons of Grawood Baptist Church will be honorary pallbearers.
Though she was born into a large family during the Great Depression, Christine did not lack anything she needed. As the youngest of nine, she was doted on by her older sisters, who sewed her lovely dresses from beautiful fabric. Christine grew accustomed to this and took care to be well-dressed throughout her life. Her parents instilled in her a strong work ethic, clear moral standards, and the importance of a relationship with Jesus. She followed their direction well and did the same for her children.
Christine went on to have a successful high school career as a Hall Summit Hornet. She was a three-year member of the volleyball team, an editor of the yearbook, and worked on the staff of the school’s paper—the Hornet’s Buzz. Her good looks, quick wit, and sense of humor made her one of the more popular girls at school and attracted gentlemen callers.
Just before she graduated from high school, Christine was driving the family truck home from church when it ran out of gas. As she stood next to the truck assessing the situation, the one and only Albert Peyton Bogan rolled up on a motorcycle. Thus began a 70-year relationship that ended only when he went to heaven in 2020. Peyton’s initial courtship of her was not easy, though, due to the number of other suitors interested in the lovely and spirited Christine.
Christine graduated from Hall Summit High in the spring of 1951, and just over a year later, she gave in and married Peyton on August 8,1952. He had enlisted in the Air Force, so she moved to San Antonio where he was stationed. They lived there until he was discharged in 1955 and moved back to North Louisiana, but not before they had their first child, Mike. Soon to follow was a little girl—Donna—and then two more boys—Steve and Randy. She loved them deeply. She put them first. And she sacrificed for them. She was a very good mother.
She was also a hard worker. Always independent, Christine entered the workforce despite also raising four children. She held a couple of different positions before finding her work home at LSU Medical Center in 1977. She was employed there continuously until she retired as an Accounting Supervisor in 2001. She continued to use her management skills at The Oaks where, until very recently, she managed and encouraged the nurses and aides.
Christine was also an excellent grandmother. Proverbs 17:6 says that grandchildren are a crown for the aged. Though she would have never acknowledged being “aged,” she had a splendid crown of 13 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. She loved every single one of them and wanted all of them to be at her house at the same time all the time. They adored her equally and benefitted tremendously from her love, grace, and sacrifice.
Indeed, a defining characteristic of Peyton and Christine’s family was their deep love and loyalty to each other. Not only were family members and friends welcomed at all times, there was a clear expectation that they stop by and stay a while (at least until Peyt said he was feeling better). New visitors would marvel at the revolving door of family members and friends coming in all day every day, and never leaving without being accused of leaving too soon.
They never left hungry either. Christine was a gifted cook who was generous with her gift. She loved her family by feeding them good food in large quantities. Every holiday was a feast that fed dozens and ended with tables of leftovers. This was partly because she would cook specific desserts for family members and friends who had developed favorites. Even into her eighties, she would spend entire days on her feet preparing for holidays cooking turkey and dressing, whipping up pies, baking cakes, and crafting sugar into various delights. Then she’d clean because Christine kept a clean house.
Christine worshipped the Lord all of her life and was a faithful member of Grawood Baptist Church. She and Peyton attended Sunday morning services without fail, and they led various ministries throughout their decades of membership. But her commitment did not stop at the church doors. Christine loved Jesus. Each night (after finishing her incredibly successful skincare regime), she would sit on the side of her bed and read her Bible. She knew that God is good even when our circumstances appear to be bad, such as when she lost Peyton. This week, though, they were reunited.
Christine met her heavenly father on December 3, 2024. Early that morning, He welcomed her into heaven where she is now full of joy and more whole than she ever was in this broken world. Soon after, Peyton undoubtedly rolled up in a golden golf cart, picked up his girl, and took her for a ride on streets of gold.
