Charles Edward White

Charles was born in Vivian, Louisiana to Essie Lee White and Charles Elbert White Jr. who tragically passed away before Charles was born. His mother Essie Lee married Maxie Eugene Timmons when Charles was three years old. Maxie raised and loved Charles as his own son. Charles grew up in Shreveport, Louisiana, but enjoyed spending his summers and weekends on his family's farm in Longstreet, Louisiana. Charles graduated from C. E. Byrd High School in 1962. He then attended Northwestern State University and graduated in 1965 with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration. That same year he married the love of his life, Linda Lee Nielsen. Following graduation, Charles worked for Western Geophysical. He then began work for the State of Louisiana where he served as District Manager of Louisiana Rehabilitation Services. It was there that he spent 33 years helping those with disabilities experience education and employment opportunities. Charles loved his wife and family dearly. Comfort and low stress were important to Charles. After retirement, he was determined not to wear suits or ties. Over the years, Charles enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, spoiling his dogs Missy and Lita, vacationing in the mountains, serving his church, watching college football, hunting, fishing, listening to country music, and watching movies, especially John Wayne movies. Charles enjoyed his role as father to his son, Chris and daughter Kristy, but his true joy was his role as Big Daddy to his adored grandchildren. Charles battled heart disease for thirty years. He was strong and resilient for so long. He passed peacefully surrounded by his family. We give thanks to the Lord for he has now been healed! His parents Essie Lee Timmons, Maxie Eugene Timmons, and Charles Elbert White Jr. preceded Charles in death. Charles is survived by his devoted wife of 53 years, Linda Lee White; sister, Elaine Wallace; son, Christopher Eugene White and wife Jennifer; daughter, Kristy Lee White Sumlin and husband Shane; grandchildren, Ciara Elizabeth White, Magdalene Lee Sumlin, Christopher Kasch Sumlin, Madeline Kay Mackey, and Charles Maxwell Mackey along with loving extended family. Visitation will be on Saturday, July 21, 2018, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Rose-Neath Southside Chapel. A celebration of Charles' life will immediately follow at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Earl Timmons will officiate. Special thanks to Dr. Craig Miller and Dr. Scott Wiggins for years of caring and compassion.
