Steve was born on December 8, 1937 in Shreveport, Louisiana to Travis Lynch and Edna O’Neal Lynch and passed away on Friday, January 12, 2024 in Shreveport.

Steve graduated from Longstreet High School in May of 1955. He married Mary Maxine Evans on June 29, 1955. They were married for 68 wonderful years. He worked for Kansas City Southern Railroad and Union Pacific Railroad for 41 years. He loved sports. He knew everything about LSU sports. He loved his camp, fishing, riding his tractor, working in his yard, and going to see his nieces, Britlyn and Maddie Garrett’s ball games. He also loved spending time with them at the camp and just loving life. He had the best sense of humor. Anybody that was around him, found that out very quickly. He was ambidextrous but mostly wrote with his right hand. He batted baseballs with his left hand. He was quick-witted and enjoyed talking to his good friends. He always had a good story and was great at telling them.

Steve is preceded in death by his parents, Travis and Edna Lynch; wife, Mary Maxine Evans; son, Clifford Scott; sisters, Minnie Lou Bagley and Geraldine Wilkerson. Left to cherish Steve’s memory is his son, Steven R. Lynch; daughter, Shelly Lynch Jackson and husband, Collin Lane Jackson; sister, Shirley Lambert; and multiple nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his special nieces, Britlyn and Maddie Garrett; companion/son, John Whitaker; and special friend, Brenda Timmons Woodall; other extended family members and many friends that will miss him dearly but always love and cherish his memory.

Honoring Steve as pallbearers will be Ronnie Lee, Donnie Lee, Pat Boose, Frank Leon, John Whitaker, and Rev. Johnny Myles. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Curt Evans, Fred Graves, and Rodney Arbuckle.

The family would like to express special thanks to Willis-Knighton South, The Glen and their staff, Rev. Johnny Myles and his staff, Lisa at Nightingale Hospice, and many other people that stood by him throughout his life.
