Charles Melvin Cottrell was born May 4, 1955, in Three Creeks, AR, to Charles Wesley and Jessie Clay Rogers Cottrell. He entered into rest at age 71 on June 18, 2026, in Homer, LA.
Charles recently retired after working for years as a pump truck driver in the saltwater disposal industry and had many customers that asked for him specifically. He loved old westerns, Elvis Presley, and his grandchildren. Earlier in his life, he raced go-carts and sprint cars successfully winning numerous races and championships.
He was proceeded in death by his parents, Charles Wesley and Jessie Clay Rogers Cottrell, spouse of many years, Glenda Cottrell, and siblings, Harvey Cottrell and Frances Cottrell.
He is survived by son, Charles Wesley Cottrell and wife Sara of Marshall, TX; daughter, Sondra Murphy and husband Chad of Dunn, NC; sisters, Bobbie Jean Lee, Charlotte (Rickey) Lewis, and Shirley (Ricky) Roberson; four grandchildren, Annabelle Cottrell, Marley Cottrell, Christopher Bridgers (Bailey) of Pinehurst, NC, and Dylan Murphy (Kaleigh) of Louisburg, NC; and four great-grandchildren, Audrey Bridgers, Lilly Juarez, Avery Murphy, and Autumn Murphy, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Charles Wesley and Sara would like to especially thank Charles’ sister-in-law, Betty Lee. Since Glenda passed three years ago, Betty has been a wonderful family member, neighbor, and friend to Charles, caring for him in a multitude of ways to the end of his life. Words cannot express how grateful Charles Wesley and Sara are to her for all that she did.
Charles’ family would also like to express their gratitude to Claiborne Memorial Medical Center including Dr. Cliff Salmon, Dr. Scott Haynes, and all the nurses and staff for the care and comfort they provided in his final days.
Honorary pallbearers will be Ricky Roberson, Robert Lee, Matt Lee, Christopher Bridgers, and Dylan Murphy.
In lieu of flowers honoring Charles, his family suggests donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Services for Charles will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 18, 2026, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, located at 405 East 5th Street, Homer, LA. A visitation for family and friends will be held at the same location prior to the service beginning at 10:00 a.m.
