Charles Edward Hicks, age 87, passed away peacefully on July 21, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. Charles was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 64 years, Nina Darlena Hicks, and by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. H. Hicks.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 29, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 2500 Southside Dr., Shreveport, Louisiana. Burial will follow at Forest Park East Cemetery, 3700 St. Vincent Ave., Shreveport, Louisiana. A visitation will be held on Wednesday at 9:00 a.m. until the start of the service. Officiating the service will be Pastor John Lary and Associate Pastor Will Simmons of Calvary Baptist Church.
Charles leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish his memory: his son, Russell Hicks; his daughter, Karen Simmons and husband, Cody; and his son, Gary Hicks and wife, Kim. He was blessed with nine grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren. His legacy will continue through the many family members and friends whose lives he touched with his kindness, wisdom, and unwavering love.
Charles retired from UOP after many years of dedicated service, where he was respected for his strong work ethic and commitment. A proud veteran, he honorably served his country in the United States Coast Guard. His faith was the cornerstone of his life, and he was a devoted, long-time member of Calvary Baptist Church, where he faithfully worshipped and served for many years. Charles was also a proud 60-year member of the Cedar Grove Masonic Lodge, cherishing the principles of brotherhood, integrity, and service that it represented.
Charles will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, family man, and faithful friend. His quiet strength, integrity, and steadfast commitment to his family and community will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
Honoring Charles as pallbearers will be his grandsons: Carl Hicks, Casey Hicks, Trey Porter, Michael Lauseng, Brenden Meade, and Brian Crooks. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be his great grandsons: Aiden, Beckham, Cash, Grayson, Jaxon, Kasen, Nicholas, River, Tyldon, and Weston.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff of Carpenter House and Doctor Mike Sewell and Dr. Robert Martin for the exceptional care, kindness, and support they provided during his final days. Your dedication and compassion will never be forgotten.
Charles was a blessing, his memory a treasure, and he will be loved beyond words and missed beyond measure.
