Jack was born June 11, 1924 to S.W. and Rebecca Gowan in Shreveport, LA and grew up in Bossier City. He went to be with the Lord on December 20, 2018. He joined the U.S. Navy when he was 17 years old and served during WWII. He received two Purple Hearts as well as other medals for his military service. While on leave, he met his sister-in-law's best friend, Mamie Stroud. They dated for one week before they married and shared 56 wonderful years together. Jack was a master carpenter. He was well known for building custom houses in the Shreveport-Bossier area. He was a perfectionist in anything he did in his life. He was well known for his work. He is a great example of what it means to provide for your family. Jack's advice for this generation is, "Learn a trade and get good at it or go to school. Be good at whatever you choose to do."
Left to cherish Jack's memory are his sons, Charles "Chuck" Edward Gowan, Jr. and wife Brenda and Tommy Wayne Gowan and wife Sharon; daughter, Dorothy Kay Garrison; six grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Purple Heart Foundation.
