Charles Henry Goben

Dr. Charles Henry Goben went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, November 24, 2023.  Born July 9, 1931 in Muskogee, Oklahoma and was reared in Tahlequah, Oklahoma and lived most of his adult life in Shreveport, Louisiana with his best friend of over 49 years, Frances Goben.

He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry, Biology, and Education from Northeastern State University.  He furthered his education by earning his Doctor of Dental Surgery from the University of Tennessee. His private practice spanned 63 years in Shreveport, and he was recognized as the oldest practicing dentist in Louisiana at age 88.

At age 12 he received his pilot’s license before his driver’s license and enjoyed many years in his Cessna 172. He was a Captain in the Army from 1956-1959. Charles was an avid long-distance runner and nature photographer and he was asked to show his photography at the Barnwell Art Center. During his lunch hour he taught Chemistry at Trinity Heights Christian Academy from 1970-1971.

Among his many services to the community, he was an Elder at First Presbyterian Church and was Chairman of the deacon body at Broadmoor Baptist Church, where he also served on the pastor search committee and taught Sunday School for 60 years. His passion was to study the Word of God and share it with others, teaching Greek and Hebrew to the Sonshine Class. Charles’ love for the Lord encouraged his outreach to others through dentistry. Through the Mexican Indian Training Center for 38 years, he and his family spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ and ministered to their needs.  He served on the Board of Directors for MIT from 1968 until 2020.

He loved memorizing scripture and through Bible Memory Association he memorized countless scriptures and several books of the Bible:  I Peter, I John, Philippians, and Ephesians. He enjoyed sharing the books in totality with others. He served as President of the International Board for BMA.

The countless number of people edified by his teaching will live on long after his passing. He loved them one by one. His unconditional love, prayers for EVERYONE, and dry wit will be missed by all who loved him.

Charles is preceded in death by his precious wife, Frances; parents, Eulita and Charles Goben, Sr., and one sister, Anne Goben Best.

He will be sadly missed by his daughter, Lisa and husband Ken Bonnette; son, Greg Goben; daughter, Carla Goben; grandchildren, Brynner (Kelley) Bonnette, Logan (Molly) Bonnette, Carly (Erica) Bonnette, Kendall (Alex) Montero, Michael Jones, Sarah Jones, and Aaron (Stacy) Carpenter and Adam (Leslie) Carpenter; great-grandchildren, Caimen, Blaine, Ivy, Everly, Anna Leigh, Mya, Greyson, Gemma, Tristan, and Olivia, Sky, Cricket and Holden.

A visitation will be held on Friday, December 1, 2023 at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 1815 Marshall Street, Shreveport, Louisiana, 71101 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 2, 2023 at Broadmoor Baptist Church, 4110 Youree Dr., Shreveport, Louisiana, 71105. Officiating the service will be Dr. Tom Harrison, Dr. Chuck Pourciau, and Reverend Dennis Aaron.

Honoring as pallbearers will be Dr. Charles Black, Dr. Sonny Milstead, Jan Hopkins, Dr. Paul Swearingen, Chris Milstead, Collins Nix, Jeff Hogan, and Larry Williams.

The family requests that any memorials may be made to Home of Grace in Vancleave, Mississippi.

The family would like to thank Dr. Jimmy Smith, Dr. John Noles, Dr. Joe Jones, Dr. Disai, Dr. Hertado, and his nurses: Vicki, Taylor, and Toriana for their love, care, and compassion.

Charles loved his family and served them all his life. He was so proud of his girls and their families.

We love and will miss you, Daddy, Gogee, Grandad, Charles, and Dr. G!

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but will have everlasting life.” John 3:16.

We love you, and your “little buddies” are going to miss you until we see you again, Love Lisa and Carla.
