A graveside service honoring the life of Charles “C.R.” Roy Franklin, Sr., 82, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 30, 2022, at New Hope Cemetery, 339 Par Road 501, Choudrant, Louisiana. Officiating the service will be Mr. Milton Roberts.
After the graveside service, the family will welcome guests for a reception at 1593 Whitehead Road, Choudrant, Louisiana 71227.
Charles was born June 7, 1940, in Choudrant, Louisiana, to Roy Franklin and Margurite Parnell Franklin and passed away peacefully July 26, 2022, in Choudrant, Louisiana.
C.R. never met a stranger; he didn’t just make acquaintances; he made lifelong friends. He was known to be a jokester and a “bit” stubborn at times (sorry, daddy), but he worked hard to make a good life for his family.
C.R. worked at Kast Metals in Shreveport for over 20 years. He always enjoyed driving and being on the open road, which made his “retirement” job perfect for him. We could barely keep him at home; he loved driving so much for John Harvey Toyota-Lexus-Subaru, Wray Ford, and Landers.
C.R. is preceded in death by his parents; wife of 61 years, Carolyn Axton Franklin; son, Charles R. Franklin, Jr.; sister, Lorena Hogan; and brother, Roy Franklin, Jr. Left behind to honor his memory are daughters, Denise Vorhees and husband, Mike of Muncie, IN, Deanna Atkins and husband, Tommy of Bossier City, LA; daughter-in-law, Sue Franklin; grandchildren, Trey Franklin and wife, Jami, Becky Madden, Robert “Peanut” Franklin, Christopher Atkins and wife, Taylor, Sarah Atkins-Little and wife, Elissa, Dawson Atkins, Austin Vorhees and wife, Taylor, and Andrew Vorhees; great-grandchildren, Charlie, McKenzie, Levi and Kinzleigh; sisters, Shirley Roberts of Downsville, LA and Ann Ivey of Choudrant, LA; brothers, Ronald Franklin of Ruston, LA, and Donald Franklin of Simsboro, LA; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and adopted family.
The family would like to give a special thank you to Dr. Christopher Snead and Staff at Christus Cancer Treatment Center Bossier/Shreveport; Compassus Hospice Care Ruston, especially Amy and Stephanie.
Honoring Charles as pallbearers will be Tommy Atkins, Randy Long, Robert Roton, Joshua Axton, Clay Sanford, and Steve Armitage. Serving as an honorary pallbearer will be Buddy Ivey.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorials may be made to Christus Cancer Treatment Center at https://christusfoundationshreveportbossier.org/ under designation options.
