Burial will follow at Burge Cemetery in Bellevue, Louisiana. A visitation will be held on Sunday, March 24, 2024 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Bossier City, Louisiana. Officiating the service will be Reverend Murray Twyman.

Cecil was born on January 31, 1933, to the late Walter and Myrth Burge in Doyline, Louisiana, and went to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 21, 2024, in Shreveport, Louisiana.

Cecil graduated from Haughton High School in 1951 and was an officer of the Future Farmers of America. He was drafted into the United States Army in 1953 and served for two years in Korea. He married Eva Ellen Berney, on December 23, 1958. Cecil resided in Bellevue and worked in the oilfield until he retired from Arkla Gas in 1990.

Once retired, he became the “unofficial” Mayor of Bellevue, where he kept the community’s speeding down by patrolling Bodcau Dam Road and Hwy 157 at a maximum speed of eight miles per hour. Only if he was late for lunch did he ever make it to 15 miles per hour…. EVER. Cecil became a full-time farmer, gardener, hay baler, grandpa, and great-grandpa in his retired years. His chickens, cows, garden, and grandkids were the highlight of his days. He adored children no matter whose children they were. Never fear, Cecil had all the unsolicited advice you would ever need for any and every project that you were working on or even thinking about undertaking. Fishing trips down to the pond with the grandkids and taking them to eat at Cypress Inn was top on the list for him to do. He was an avid reader of Western novels, as well as a master of Sorghum and ribbon cane syrup making. He was an active member of the Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church and volunteered for home-building missions.

Cecil was preceded in death by sisters, Betty Ann Wallace, and husband, Willie, Carolyn Mills and husband, Jim; brother, Jim Gordon (JG) Burge and wife, Sarah and parents, Walter and Myrth Burge. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 65 years, Eva Ellen Burge; children, Byron Craig Burge and wife, Heidi, Emily Carol Greene and husband, Danny, Thomas Carlton Burge and wife, Chaquita; grandchildren, Rebecca Greene McElwee and husband, Dusty, Jeffery Roy Greene, Jacquelyn Burge Miller and husband, Lyle, Elizabeth Burge-Grisham; great-grandchildren, Jake Allen Greene, Daliah Paige Grisham, Dayton Wayne McElwee, Lyla Grace Miller, Emily Ann Greene, Eva Elizabeth Miller; great-great-grandson, Liam and many nieces and nephews.

Honoring his memory as pallbearers will be Justin Berney, Mitch Burge, Rob Burge, John Cecil Mills, Carl Walter Wallace, Lloyd Ray Wallace, and as a promise to his Paw, Jake Greene. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Mike Walker, Roger House and John Zavaladriga.

The family suggests that memorials may be made to Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church, 16835 Hwy 371, Minden, Louisiana 71055 or to Bellevue Union Church, 199 Bodcau Dam Rd., Haughton, Louisiana 71037.
