Carol, who was a resident of Mooringsport, Louisiana was born on December 12, 1943, to William Joseph Wright and Florence Lenora Wilson Wright in Montclair, New Jersey, and passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 14, 2024, in Bossier City, Louisiana.

Carol was a loving wife, mother, and homemaker who enjoyed flower gardening, painting, and cooking. A devout Catholic, she was involved in St. Pius X Catholic Church’s ladies' guild, altar society, Eucharistic ministry, and served alongside Meals on Wheels.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents and son-in-law, Thomas “Tommy” E. Smith, Jr. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Joe Southard; son, William “Bill” Southard and his wife, Wendy; daughters, Carla Southard Smith and Janet Burkitt; grandchildren, William “Will” Southard and his wife, Kayla, Sha Smith Cathey and her husband, Erich, Garrett Southard and his wife Madisen, Jenna Smith, Izabelle Burkitt, Olivia Burkitt; great-grandchildren, Iris Renee, Lillian “Lilly” May, Elliott Wayne and numerous nieces and nephews.

There are not enough words to convey Nana’s lively spirit: faithful to the Lord, kind and gentle towards all, joyful with an infectious laugh; all of which, Alzheimer’s disease was unable to take away.

The family would like to express gratitude to both the Blake Memory Care staff and St. Joseph Hospice for providing outstanding medical care with extraordinary compassion.

The family suggests memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St, Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105, as well as take a moment to hug your loved ones and reminisce about the sweetness of life just as our Nana did.
