Candice Ann Sibley Askew, (Candy), 70, peacefully passed away on September 29, 2026 after a lengthy illness.
Candice grew up in Shreveport, LA where she attended Captain Shreve High School and went on to graduate from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority. Following graduation, Candice moved to Dallas where she enjoyed working and meeting new friends. After 7 years, she returned to Shreveport where she met her husband, James H. Askew (Jim). She was very proud to be the founder, owner and operator of Confidential Document Destruction Services, Inc. (CDDS), a shredding business, until health issues retired her. Her true passion was cooking, like her father. If you came by to visit, she immediately brought you a plate full of something simmering from the stove. She always said she cooked with love and enjoyed sharing whatever was on the stove that day.
Candice was preceded in death by her parents, Louis Walter (Bubba) Sibley and Beverly Ross Sibley of Shreveport, LA. She is survived by her husband, James H. Askew; her twin sister, Cindy Sibley Petersen; her nephew, Jeff Petersen; niece, Erin Petersen of Austin, TX and step-children, Graham W. Askew and wife, Candace of Memphis, TN, Elizabeth A. Gamble and husband, Denn of Shreveport, LA and Mary A. Martinez and husband, Blake of New Orleans, LA and their children, Kate Askew, Luke Askew, Alex Askew, Greenley Gamble, Eli Gamble and Miller Gamble.
The family would like to express special thanks to Dr. David Abdehou, the staff of Gentiva Hospice, including but not limited to Sharon, Victoria and Megan and her faithful caregivers and friends until the end, Mattie Jackson, Sheila Robinson, Mary Johns and Maple Johnson.
A memorial service will be held at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church on Saturday, October 10, 2026 at 12:00 p.m.
