Braden Joseph Barkman

Braden Joseph Barkman, 27, of Shreveport, Louisiana unexpectedly passed away on September 22nd, 2023.

Braden was born on October 3, 1995 in Shreveport Louisiana and grew up in Benton/Plain Dealing area until age 11 when the family moved to South Shreveport. From a small child, specifically the age of two, Braden knew how to operate a tractor better than most farmers. Growing up, he loved being on the family farm. He often drove his ‘Big Jake’ down Highway 3 to help his Dadow at the barn. Braden loved helping his dad cut down trees. He was never afraid to work or learn something new. Braden never sat still for very long. He loved being on the water with his family, listening to music, fishing, riding jet skis, tubing and camping with his friends. Braden attended Southwood High School then entered the Youth Challenge Program in Pineville, Louisiana. After graduating, he made his way to Cody, Wyoming where he lived with David and Lisa Yates, learning many trades such as roughnecking on an oilrig, construction, landscaping, and masonry. Braden loved riding motorcycles with the ‘Heathens’. He developed many long-lasting friendships that turned into family. While in Wyoming, he was blessed with a beautiful daughter, Braelynn (Pumpkin). He often said his greatest accomplishment in life was being her father. After several years, Braden returned home to Shreveport rekindling old friendships and creating new ones. He worked for the family tree business, but recently found his passion driving heavy machinery with a Shreveport construction company.

Braden will be deeply missed by those that knew his heart and compassion. His greatest joy in life was making other people happy. He had the bluest eyes that you’d ever seen and a smiling face with the cutest dimples. He was truly a handsome and heartfelt young man that has gone too soon.

Braden is preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Charles Lawrence Allen; his maternal grandfather, Byron Joseph Barkman; biological father, Chris Dean; and paternal grandfather; Ralph Dean.

Braden is survived by his daughter, Braelynn Luna Barkman; parents Christopher and Michelle Anne Barkman Harris; his sisters, Bailey Anne Fremin (Kyle) of New Iberia, Louisiana, Crystal Rigsby (Harley) of Searcy, Arkansas, Trisha Harris (Garrett), Nikki Harris, both of Shreveport, Louisiana; and nephews, Carson and Cooper Fremin and Jerry Rambin; and niece, Carly Rigsby; maternal grandmother, Amanda Jane Bentley Allen; paternal grandmother, Addie Dean; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins; Braden’s lifelong friends who turned into brothers, Cameron Sykes, Andrew Myers, Jarred Taylor, Thomas Lamb, Chris (Bubba) Hust, Jaylen Cox, and Mason Barry.
