Bobby Neal Hawkins, 96, of Shreveport, Louisiana, passed away on Wednesday, August 5, 2026.

At his heart, he was a storyteller. Bobby was an incredible man of God, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, son, brother, uncle, bible teacher, small group leader, and so much more.

Bobby was born and raised in Somerville, Tennessee, and never tired of telling stories about it, the kind of stories that got told again and again, funnier each time, and were loved a little more every time. He carried Somerville with him his whole life, in the way he talked, the way he saw the world, and the tales he passed down to everyone who would sit and listen.

He built his career as a pharmacist, moving from Memphis to Shreveport for a $50 per month raise to manage the brand-new Broadmoor Drugstore. In time, he became his own boss, buying Barksdale Drug #3, the professional achievement he was proudest of in a lifetime of hard work. After selling the store, he continued in the pharmacy world with other drug stores before finishing his career and retiring at 81 with Walmart.

Bobby loved sports of nearly every kind: golf, baseball, basketball, but football held a special place in his heart, and no one cheered louder for the LSU Tigers and the New Orleans Saints. More than anything, though, he loved watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren play. There was no prouder seat in the house than the one he took on the sidelines.

He was a man of God, a devoted family man, and a storyteller with a notable sense of humor until the end, leaving a legacy that will be told and retold for generations, just the way he liked it.

Bobby was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Hawkins; parents, Thomas and Myrtle Hawkins; brothers, Herman Hawkins and Thomas Hawkins; and sisters, Otoline Culver and Jean Cobb.

He is survived by his children, Katherine Sanders, Kenneth Hawkins (Valerie), and Timothy Hawkins; grandchildren, Tiffany Sanders Cupp (Brian), Jason Sanders (Jennifer), Peterson Hawkins (Jordan), Andrew Hawkins, Taylor Garcia, and Abigail Hawkins; and great-grandchildren, Alaina, Trenton, Tyler, and Brooks Cupp, and Bennett Hawkins.

The family extends their deepest gratitude to the entire staff at Montclair Park Assisted Living for their exceptional care and compassion shown to Dad throughout his time there. We are also enormously grateful to his devoted private caregivers, whose kindness became a treasured part of his daily life: Vanessa Million, who lovingly cared first for Joyce Hawkins and then for Bobby himself; Colleen Winkelman; Angela Hawkins; Dorothy Thomas; and especially Angela Webb, whom Dad proudly called his adopted daughter. Your tenderness, love, and devotion gave our family priceless peace of mind, and we will forever be thankful.
