Billye Porter

Billye Sue Belk Porter was born on October 20, 1926 in Spencer, Louisiana and passed away on October 10, 2021 in Shreveport, Louisiana. A private family memorial will be held at a later date. Billye Sue married the love of her life, Wade Alvin Porter, Jr. at the age of seventeen and three days before he shipped out to serve as a U.S. Marine during World War II. She then went to work in the shipyards until Alvin came home three years later. While most women were homemakers, Billye Sue entered the work force where she remained until she retired at the age of sixty-three. The majority of her career was in the field of banking where she retired as a Vice President of First National Bank in Mansfield, Louisiana. She enjoyed traveling, gardening, entertaining and spending time with her family. Describing Billye Sue Porter's life in a few sentences is totally impossible, but she wanted a really fun, personal obituary, so we decided to give the grandchildren a chance to finish this sentence: "When I think of Ganny, I ..." There are some thoughts that are unanimous: First and foremost, she loved her family, encouraged them and enjoyed visiting each and every one. She always took time to listen to each thought, accomplishment, concern and dream for the future. She was elegant and loved wearing stylish clothes, nice jewelry and cool sunglasses. Ganny enjoyed a good glass of scotch and playing slot machines. She was fun, feisty, strong, generous and lived life to the fullest. She was a Rock Star Grandmother! Billye Sue Porter was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend! Heaven just became even livelier when she arrived and received her new unencumbered, pain free, joyful body. She was preceded in death by parents, Harriet Mills Belk and Benjamin Elliott Belk; husband, Wade Alvin Porter, Jr.; son, Russell Ray Porter; grandson, Matthew Ray Porter; and sister, Claire Duane Carr. She is survived by daughter, Sharon Porter Burford of Shreveport, Louisiana; son, Richard Alvin Porter and wife, Debbie of Kingwood, Texas; daughter-in-law, Kathy Porter, of Mesa, Arizona; grandchildren, Charles Elmer "Trey" Burford III (Angie), John Porter Burford (Suzanne), Mark Duane Burford, Mandi Porter Frye (Brett), Jennifer Porter Boneno (Kevin), Lindsay Porter Falgoust (Scott), Katie Porter Richardson (Russell), Brandon O'Neal Byrd, Cameron Matthew Byrd; and sixteen great-grandchildren. Our family would like to thank all the people who helped mother so much: Dr. Randy Del Mundo and his staff, the nurses, sitters and staff at The Oaks Health Center and Willis-Knighton Pierremont. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St Judes Children's Research Hospital, Wounded Warrior Project, or a charity of your choice.
