Billy Stanley Davis

Born January 25, 1929 to the late Willie Wallace and Irene Sparks Davis in Beech Springs, LA went to his eternal home in Heaven forever with his Lord and Savior Monday, February 4, 2019. He was a precocious toddler - his mother finding him about to go head-first into the flour barrel she kept under the kitchen table. Because of deformities of hand and foot as well as a hereditary eye condition, Billy was rated 4F and was not called to serve in WWII. He was a handsome guy; the young ladies liked him. When Tweet died in 2015, he was lost without her. Billy attended Beech Springs School and went into the workforce. As a young man, he worked in the oil fields here and overseas, but the majority of his career was with the Louisiana Highway Department, where he tested at the highest levels. Billy was loved by many in Shreveport and in his childhood parish of Jackson. He and his wife, Tweet, were members of Springs of Grace Baptist Church for well over 55 years serving faithfully. He was a deacon in his church which gave him many opportunities to serve the Body of Christ. A special ministry for many, many years was the Cradle Roll visits. He and Tweet made numerous hospital visits to moms and their newborns to present them with their first pink or blue Bible. They also weekly visited the shut-ins. They, along with a very active and caring Sunday school class, reached out, prepared food, and helped many that were in need or grief. Billy and Tweet also helped see to their parents during their final years. They also helped with other friends and relatives in their final years. Left to cherish his memory are his sisters, Patsy Carnell (Jim) and Kitty Fannin (Jim); brother, James Davis (Becky); brother-in-law, Arthur Rockett; sister-in-law, Shelby Davis; nephew, Jimmy Copellar; and great-nephew, Pat Doucette. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, February 7, 2019 at Rose-Neath Southside with funeral services following at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Jeff Segner officiating. Interment will follow at Jimmy Davis Tabernacle Cemetery in Quitman, LA. Pallbearers will be Raymond Davis, Ronald Davis, Jim Fannin, Brad Davis, and Bryan Whitten. Honorary pallbearers will be the deacons of Springs of Grace Baptist Church. Billy was a good man, a gentleman. He did not seek to be noticed for all his work, but quietly and faithfully served God, his church, and others throughout life. The Glory does not belong to the church, nor does it belong to any person. ALL Glory belongs to God, and Billy lived his life that way. The family wishes to express a special thank you for every kindness and prayer given.
