COUSHATTA, LA - Celebration and life going home service will be held for Billie Jo Veatch Orr, 84, on Tuesday, December 12, 2017 at 11:00 AM at the Hickory Grove Baptist Church in Coushatta, LA with Brother Mike Fort officiating and assisted by Brother Truett Brown. Internment will follow in the church cemetery. A visitation will be held beginning at 9:00 AM prior to the service time.
Billie Jo Veatch Orr died peacefully surrounded by her family on December 8, 2017 in Coushatta, Louisiana. Billie Jo was born the second of four children in Coushatta, Louisiana on August 10, 1933 to W. W. and Carrie Lee Long Veatch. She was a lifelong resident of Red River Parish and an active member of Hickory Grove Baptist Church.
Billie Jo taught Sunday school at Hickory Grove as well as a leader in vacation bible school. "Miss Billie Jo" always made sure her kids had plenty of cookies and punch. She was an outstanding southern cook. Some of the most memorable moments were spent around her dining table visiting and enjoying a delicious meal. Billie Jo's favorite past times were working in her yard and enjoying Mexican Train and playing Rook at Jack and Laura's Recreation Center with numerous friends and family.
Billie Jo loved her family dearly. The family gatherings and annual Christmas celebrations were her most treasured times. After almost 30 years of service, she retired from the Sunbeam Corporation in 1993. Billie Jo acquired many dear friends over the years. Her sweet smile and contagious laugher will be missed by many.
Preceding her in death are her parents; sister, Bobbie Jean Kern and sister-in-law, Mary Ann Veatch.
She is survived by her children, Michael (Lynette), Gary (Donna), Rhonda Long and Carrie McDonald; seven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; sister, Robbie Sue Johnson (Eddie); and brother, Claude Veatch and numerous nieces and nephews.
