Officiating the services will be Rev. Cecil Marr, pastor of North Shreve Baptist Church, assisted by Jeff Carter. There will be no graveside service. The family will have a time of visitation on Saturday, July 25th from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Rose-Neath, Marshall Street.
Born December 12, 1922. Billie was baptized in the Boeuf River near her home in Hebert, LA at the age of 16, after she called on the Lord and became a child of God. During WW2, 1942 Billie moved to Shreveport to work in the U.S. Army Ammunition Plant.
On March 23, 1947 she married the love of her life James Randall Heflin. Together they raised three children. Since that day she became a housewife and devoted her life to her husband and children. JR and Billie were charter members of North Shreve Baptist Church. On February 3, in 1963 they opened their home and NSBC was organized in their living room. By all accounts Billie dedicated her entire life to the Lord Jesus Christ and the furtherance of his kingdom. During her final days her concern was not for herself or her deteriorating condition, it was to make sure that she asked all that she knew if they were also a child of God. Billie was a bright light in the lives of all who knew her.
Billie loved to travel before it became impossible for her. Since JR was involved with coaching and later Commissioner of the American Legion Baseball League they traveled attending all of the American Legion World Series games. They also loved to attend Cathedral quartet concerts. She was like a second mom to many that came through her door. You could always expect a nice warm cooked meal. She was preceded in death by her 1958 Westinghouse oven. All that knew Billie knew she had a wonderful sense of humor. When that old copper oven died she found the warranty card she never filled out. So true to her form she filled it out apologizing for not mailing it sooner. She attached the following note.
\"This oven was put in my house when it was built in 1958. There hasn\'t been too many days it hasn\'t been used. I\'ll be 97 in December so I don\'t do as much cooking anymore. It sure has been a good one the thermostat went out. I sure hate to give it up." Written on the warranty card, when asked what her next major appliance would be, she wrote "coffin".
When Billie was 89 she coded 16 times. As Dr Zhang was about to give up he told us he felt God telling him to go one more time. We are thankful that he listened to the voice of God that day and that God gave us 8 more years to cherish her. We want to acknowledge the love and care that both Dr P.V. Blanchard and Dr Zhang gave to her.
We will end with her signature Farwell
\" I LOVE YOU A BUSHEL AND A PECK AND A HUG AROUND THE NECK\"
