Billie Jean Flanigan passed away February 11, 2021 at the Town and Country Nursing Home in Minden. She was born October 13, 1928 to William Bryant Corry and Gladys Copeland Corry in the Arizona Community near Homer, Louisiana.
Growing up in the Arizona Community, Mrs. Flanigan attended elementary and high schools at Lisbon, LA. After high school, she attended Northwestern University in Natchitoches and graduated with an Education degree. Following graduation, she taught school at West Side School in Minden, Linwood School in Shreveport, and finished her teaching career at Youree Drive Junior High School. Her teaching career spanned 30 years, and she specialized in the seventh and eight grades teaching English and Louisiana history.
In 1955 Miss Billie met and dated Orin Flanigan. The couple was married in 1956 at Noel Methodist Church in Shreveport with the Reverend John Rasmussen officiating. With her husband Billie traveled extensively throughout the 50 United States, Canada, and Mexico. After Orin's retirement the couple moved to Minden. In Minden the couple was active in the First Methodist Church.
She was pre-deceased by her parents, a sister Elaine Shanklin, brothers-in law Bob Gates and Eugene Shanklin, and a nephew Dan Gates. She is survived by her husband, a sister Dot Gates and several nieces and nephews. Due to the covid situation, there will be no funeral service at this time.
