Betty Sue King

Shreveport, LA - A Memorial Service celebrating the life and legacy of Betty Sue Broadway King, 79, of Shreveport, will be held in the chapel at Rose-Neath Marshall Street Shreveport on Sunday, June 24, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until service time. Officiating will be Pastor Ed Scott of the Still Waters Worship Center, Kilgore, TX. Betty was born on April 26, 1939 and went to be with her Lord on June 20, 2018. Born and raised in Robeline, Louisiana, Betty graduated from Robeline High School in 1957. After high school graduation, she moved to Shreveport to be with her husband of two years and started her family. Although Betty never received a higher education, she was an excellent bookkeeper throughout her life, exercising her meticulous attention to detail for the benefit of those she assisted. Betty enjoyed the outdoors, spending time tending her gardens and catching fish on her beloved Cross Lake. She was known to take various members of her family and friends fishing with her but they would often tire long before Betty was ready to head back to land. If you couldn't be in a boat from before daylight until after dark, you were not invited back. Known as, "Mrs. King Fish", many regulars on Cross Lake would try to follow her to see where she caught her massive amounts of fish, to no avail. Betty was preceded in death by her father Bill Broadway and mother Joyce Harrington Ashton; her brothers Bill Broadway and Keith Broadway; her sister Vera Marie Wolters; first husband and father of her children, Lannon Miller; her husband of 23 years Irving King, Jr.; and her cherished grandson Dirk Miller, Jr. She is survived by her brothers Donald Broadway of Houston, TX, and Dale Broadway of Haughton, LA; son Dirk Miller and wife Jeannie of Kilgore, TX; her daughter Deneé Locke and husband Matt, of Shreveport, LA; grandchildren Darrell Miller and special friend Julie Cain of Longview, TX; Halie Miller Barnhart and husband Joe of Kilgore, TX; Saige Wilhite Solomon and husband Chris of Shreveport, LA; Beal Locke of New Orleans, LA; Remi Locke and fiancé Lee Gorman of Fort Worth, TX; great-grandchildren Colt Allen Barnhart, Callie Jo Barnhart, Lilly Grace Solomon, and Maggie Carroll Solomon, all of whom she loved immensely; and special family friend, Brandi Nacole Foster. Nothing made her happier than family gatherings where she would mostly sit back and just watch her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Betty is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, lifelong friends, her special friend, Bob Koll, and her family at Spring Lake Guest Care. The family would like to extend our most sincere appreciation to Dr. Richard Haynie and the staff of Aime Hospice Care for the excellent and compassionate care they gave Betty. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials may be made to a special fund honoring her grandson, "Friends of Dirk Miller Jr. Fund," MD Anderson Cancer Center, P. O. Box 4486, Houston, TX, 77210 or online at mdanderson.org/gifts.
