Funeral services for Betty Jane Smith Rayburn, 81, will be held on Thursday, December 9, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 2500 Southside Dr., Shreveport, Louisiana. Burial will follow at Providence Cemetery in Shreveport. A visitation will be held Thursday, December 9, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. until service time. Officiating the service will be Melody Bassett. Betty was born on April 14, 1940 to Chester and Ethel Smith in Dresden, Tennessee and passed away on Sunday, December 5, 2021 in Shreveport, Louisiana. Betty was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and friend. She loved to watch her soap operas: All My Children, One Life to Live, and General Hospital. She was a Christian of the Pentecostal/Apostolic faith and attended Word of Life and Kings Temple. Betty is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Willard Jerrell Rayburn, Sr.; her twin son and daughter, Chester Dale and Ethel Gale; four brothers, including her twin, Thomas Wayne; two sisters, Margaret and Sue; and stepson, Jerry Wayne. Left to cherish her memory are daughters, Betty Townsend, Janie Meshell (Larry), Marti Howell (Barry); sons, Willie Rayburn, Jim Rayburn and Thomas Rayburn (Brandi). Honoring Betty as pallbearers will be Steven Anderson, Vincent Howell, Timothy Townsend, Shane Meshell, Joshua Small, and Tom McSween. Serving as honorary pallbearers are Caleb Barnes, T.J. Jayden, and Gabriel Rayburn as well as her granddaughters and great-granddaughters. The family suggests memorials be made to the Alzheimer's Association, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Shriners Hospital.
