Betty Jane Greathouse

Betty Jane Greathouse, age 83, of Haughton, Louisiana entered into eternal rest on May 7, 2024. She was born on August 29, 1940, in Connellsville, Pennsylvania to Martin and Agnes Detwiler.

A visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, May 10, 2024, located at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 2500 Southside Drive in Shreveport, Louisiana. Funeral services honoring the life of Betty will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 11, 2024, at the funeral home. Officiating the service will be Pastor John Korlaske. Honoring Betty as pallbearers will be Lyle Prratt, Steve Phillips, Ryan Phillips, Neal O’Quinn, Jordan Phillips, and Angelo Simonelli. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Cris Detwiler and Matt Bourgeois. Interment will be held at Forest Park West Cemetery, 4000 Meriwether Road, Shreveport, Louisiana.

Betty was born and raised in the rolling hills of Pennsylvania. She married Bob Waddell, and together the Air Force took them to Spokane, Washington, Little Rock, Arkansas, and finally settling in Shreveport, Louisiana where her daughter and son were born & raised. In 1984, Betty married James (Jim) E. Greathouse and they were happily married until his death in 2006. She became a Nana for Will in 1996, and Hailey and Lyndi a few years later. She treasured her grandchildren. She loved to travel on long road trips to see this beautiful country.  She was an active member in Ellerbe Road Methodist Church for many years. She enjoyed working puzzles, playing dominos at the church, watching the Dallas Cowboys, and visiting the local penny slots whenever possible. Among her talents, she was a gifted baker. She was famous for chocolate chip cookies, strawberry pie, and homemade cinnamon rolls. Betty worked at Pioneer Bank, eventually becoming Regions Bank, and retired at the age of 65.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, James E. Greathouse; parents, Martin and Agnes Detwiler; and brother, Martin Detwiler. Left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Jennifer O’Quinn and husband Kendall; grandson, William O’Quinn; son, Edward (Bud) Waddell and wife Justine; granddaughters, Hailey Waddell, Kendra Fadaley, and Lyndi Waddell; stepdaughter, Jamie Simonelli and husband Angelo; stepsons, Mark Greathouse and wife Susan, and Scott Greathouse.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Ellerbe Road Methodist Church in honor of Betty.
