Betty Gay

A Memorial Service for Betty "Mamaw" Woodward Gay, 98, will be held on Friday, October 8, 2021, at 12:00 p.m. at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 2500 Southside Dr., Shreveport, Louisiana. Burial will follow at Forest Park West Cemetery, 4000 Meriwether Rd., Shreveport, Louisiana. Betty was born on May 27, 1923, to Willie and Vivian Woodward in Campti, Louisiana and passed away on Tuesday, September 28, 2021, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Betty was a long-time resident of Bossier City, Louisiana, living there for more than 65 years, until she moved to Baton Rouge to be with her daughter and grandson and their families. She ran the Credit Department for Selber Brothers Dept. Store for some 30 years before retiring. Betty and her husband, Carl, enjoyed fishing and she loved being with her family. She enjoyed playing cards and cooking fish for family gatherings. Betty is preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Carl "Uncle Duck" Gay; and was the last living child from a family of nine brothers and sisters. Betty relished her final years in Baton Rouge, which she got to enjoy with her surviving family members -- her daughter, Carol Adkins and husband, Paul; and grandson, Paul Adkins, Jr. and wife, Erin. After Betty moved to Baton Rouge, she was greeted with the addition of a great-grandson, Jackson Paul Adkins, who brought new life and joy to her final years. Betty is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to express special thanks to the Baton Rouge Hospice Butterfly Wing for their extraordinarily sympathetic and tender care and support shown to Betty during her final days.
