Funeral services celebrating the life of Betty Jean Long Franklin, age 88, will be held at 1:00 pm Thursday, October 28, 2021 at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 2201 Airline Dr, Bossier City, LA 71111. Officiating will be Rev. Harrell Shelton, Associate Pastor of Airline Baptist Church. Interment to follow at the Gardens of Memory Memorial Park, 1527 Lewisville Road, Minden, LA. There will be a time of visitation on Thursday, October 28, 2021 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, Bossier City, LA.
Betty was born in Shreveport, Louisiana on December 22, 1932 to Harry and Mary Secrette Long and passed away on October 24, 2021 in Bossier City, Louisiana. She retired from teaching after 25 years. She is a graduate of Louisiana Tech where she earned her Bachelor's degree in Education. She then went on to earn her Master's in Elementary Education at USL and taught there for several years. She was the coordinator of all Head Start Centers in south Louisiana. She enjoyed teaching sunday school at First Baptist Church in Lafayette, Louisiana.
Betty is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dr. Arthur J. Franklin. She is survived by her son, Ron Franklin and wife, Suzanne; daughter, Janet Sampson and husband, Keith; grandchildren, Matthew Franklin, Jennifer Wyant and husband, Joseph, Tyler Franklin, Logan Sampson, and wife, Zoe, Connor Sampson, Alyssa Sampson, Landon Sampson; two great- grandchildren, Rylie Wyant and Braylyn Franklin.
Honoring Betty as pallbearers will be Stewart Beatty, Dr. Paul Davis, Matthew Franklin, Tyler Franklin, Steve Jones and Logan Sampson.
The family has requested that memorials be made to Louisiana Baptist Children's Home, 7200 Desiard Street Monroe, LA 71203.
