Funeral services to celebrate the life of Bessie Virginia “Dot” Selman, 93, will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 4, 2023, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 2500 Southside Dr., Shreveport, Louisiana. Officiating the service will be Brother Robert Selman. Graveside services will follow in Forest Park West Cemetery, 4000 Meriwether Rd. in Shreveport. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Friday, March 3, 2023 at Rose-Neath Southside.

Dot was born November 1, 1929 in Courtland, Alabama to Thomas and Bessie Terry. She went to be with the Lord on February 26, 2023.

Her family moved to the Rodessa, Louisiana area in the late 1930’s. She graduated from McLeod High School in 1947, where she was captain of her high school basketball team. It was in Rodessa that Dot met the love of her life, her husband of 61 years, Albert Selman. They were married in December 1946 and had three children. Dot was a longtime resident of Shreveport but enjoyed her years and many friends in Victoria, Texas as well. Dot had a beautiful smile and a happy heart. She loved hosting her annual Thanksgiving get-togethers and enjoyed having a houseful of family and friends. Her hobbies included crocheting, traveling, games, puzzles, and spending time with friends. Her family and friends cherished the items she would crochet for them. Dot was a woman of strong faith and a devoted Christian, who loved the Lord. She was a member of the Walker Road Church of Christ. Dot was a loving and devoted wife to her late husband, Albert. She was a caring and loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Dot is preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Jefferson Terry and Bessie Bradford Terry; her brother, James Thelbert “Buddy” Terry; sister, Thomas “Tommie” Brewer Terry; and her late husband, Albert C. Selman. She is survived by her three children, Sandra Barmore and husband, Charles, Ronald Selman and wife, Marion, Terry Selman and wife, Denise; her four grandchildren, Kim Sweet, Heather Snook, Allan Selman, April White; and nine great-grandchildren.

Honoring Dot as pallbearers will be Allan Selman, David Selman, Darrell Selman, Keith Snook, Ben White, and Wes Hamilton. Serving as honorary pallbearer will be Jerry Carlisle.
