Services honoring the life of Mrs. Bertie Evelyn Weir Libengood will be held on Thursday, March 5, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Alabama Baptist Church in Arcadia. Burial will follow at Alabama Baptist Church Cemetery. Bro. Tony Walton will officiate. The visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. prior to the service.
Evelyn Libengood, age 101, was called to her heavenly home on March 1st, 2026. She was born in Bienville Parish on May 24, 1924. After graduating from Simsboro High School, she attended business school and then met Airman John Libengood. They were married in September of 1943. She became a telephone operator while John was overseas during the war. They later resided in Marion, Indiana, and eventually settled in Arcadia, Louisiana, where they raised their four children. Evelyn saw eight generations in her lifetime. She grew up during the Great Depression and witnessed the end of World War II. She was a true pioneer of all the cultural changes that came along during the 50’s and 60’s, and the topsy turvy world of today.
Evelyn enjoyed gardening and fishing and was an avid reader who awoke each morning to read her bible. She considered herself to be a prayer warrior and loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Her mind was strong until the end.
Evelyn is preceded in death by her husband, John M. Libengood, son Keith Libengood, daughter Rebecca Libengood Hatcher, grandson Larry Donald Smith, and brother Reese Weir.
Left to cherish her memories are her daughter Barbara Libengood Smith and husband Don and son John Kenneth Libengood and wife Phyllis. She leaves loving memories with her five grandchildren: Brandy Libengood Stevenson and husband James, Phillip Libengood and wife Bel, Paige Smith Hooker and husband Joey, John Todd Smith, and Ashley Hatcher Gondron and husband Chris. Her memory will be treasured by her eleven great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
Honoring Evelyn as pallbearers will be Phillip Libengood, Trey Stevenson, James Stevenson, Ryan Stevenson, Todd Smith, and Austin Smith. Honorary pallbearers will be Max Stevenson, Seth Hooker, Trevor Hatcher, and Steele Stevenson.
The family would like to thank the staff of Willow Ridge, where Evelyn resided for the past eight years, for their excellent care.
