Bertie Jo Conner Alford

Bertie Jo Conner Alford was born June 29, 1936 and passed from this life on July 26, 2026.

Bertie Jo was a force of nature. She raised three children, while working to provide for them. Bertie was a lady of many talents. She loved to paint, dance, sew, and crochet. She was a fabulous cook who took pride in making large feasts for those she loved.

Bertie Jo was an entrepreneur at heart, becoming a licensed beautician at 15. She owned several businesses in her lifetime, from a beauty shop named Bertie’s boutique to a nightclub called JoJos. She worked her way to the Postmaster position at the University of Houston. While working at the University of Houston she became a published author. Her manual became the standard for the University’s metered mail and bulk mail systems.

She is preceded in death by her father- Robert D Conner (Cannonball), Mother- Iva Walker Conner, brothers- Jimmy, Jiles, David, and her son- Leslie Dale Thomas.

She is survived in death by her son Mike Reid, daughter Teresa Ringgold, step-daughter Tracy Alford Moore, many grandchildren- Stephanie Ringgold, Shawn Ringgold, Brett Reid, Alexandra Meredith, Zach Moore, Taylor Moore, Christopher Moore, and several great grandchildren.

Bertie had a colorful life and taught her kids how to work hard and love Jesus.
