Funeral services for Barbara Cone Whorton, 92, of Shreveport, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 20, 2022 at Rose-Neath’s Southside Chapel. Officiating will be Rev. Thomas W. Patton, Minister to Senior Adults & Pastoral Care of Cypress Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Hill Crest Memorial Park in Haughton, LA. Funeral home visitation will be from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 19, 2022, at Rose-Neath’s Southside Chapel.
Barbara went to be with the Lord in Shreveport, LA, after a lengthy illness. She was a native of Crossett, AR, and resided in the Shreveport/Bossier City area since 1948. Barbara, the daughter of Thomas Levi and Myrtle Beatrice Cone (both deceased), was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Charles Stampley Whorton, Sr.; her sisters, Georgia Alexander, Mary Lee Jenkins, and Loraine Grayson; and her brothers, Tom Cone Jr., James Cone, and Franklin Cone.
She graduated from Crossett High School and over the years assisted her husband, Charles, in their various family businesses. Barbara, an early member of Morningside Baptist Church, now Kingston Road Baptist Church, was a faithful member of its Women’s Bible Fellowship classes.
Barbara is survived by her sons, Charles S. Whorton, Jr., and wife, Donna of Plano, TX; Richard A. Whorton and wife, Sherry and Bobby W. Whorton and wife, Kathy of Benton, LA; granddaughters Melissa Whorton Shaw and husband, John of Burleson, TX, Heather McHenry and husband, Chris of Wylie, TX, Julie Holden and husband, Scott of Rowlett, TX; grandsons, Chris Whorton and wife, Cynthia, Jerry Whorton and wife, Alex, Seth Whorton and wife, Joy, and Brad Whorton; 13 great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
Barbara’s family would like to thank her numerous caregivers and the staffs of Willis-Knighton Hospital and Highland Clinic, and her long-time physician Dr. Roan Flenniken of Highland Clinic for the loving care they provided her, and Rev. Thomas W. Patton of Cypress Baptist Church for his faithful encouraging visits and friendship.
