Barbara Slack

Barbara Slack transitioned from earth to heaven to be with her Savior, Jesus Christ on Sunday, December 7, 2025, at the age of 98. She was born in Vivian, Louisiana to Charles and Mona Edwards, June 11, 1927. She was a child of the depression and was one of “The greatest generation”. Her parents taught her to love Jesus, work hard, and to find purpose and joy in life. She was also a true lady in all her actions. She had a sharp wit and a keen sense of humor right until the end. She married J.V. Smith and moved to Minden in 1948.

She was a wife, mother, teacher, and served as a librarian for the Webster Parish Library System during her lifetime. She loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and served Him in many ways. She was active for more than 70 years at First Baptist Church in Minden where she was a member of the WMU, taught children’s Sunday School, vacation bible school and helped with the graded choir program. She loved attending Son Risers for senior adults in her later years and sang in the senior adult choir for a while.

She was preceded into heaven by her mother and father, Mona and Charles Edwards, two brothers, Malcolm Edwards, and Charles Edwards, Jr., her baby sister, Phyllis Edwards, her first husband, J.V. Smith, her son J.V. Smith, Jr., her granddaughter, Susan Clifford and her second husband, Robert L. Slack.

She is survived by her daughter, Lynn Clifford (Tee) of Pollock, LA, her son, Earl Smith of Pineville, LA, three grandchildren, Thomas Clifford, Trey Smith (Lizzie), and Kaylee Wallace (Adam), one great grandchild, Amelia (Millie) Smith, and sister, Penny McCann.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, December 18 at11:00 A.M. at Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Minden.

The family thanks the people of Compassionate Care Hospice, especially her nurse, Savannah and her CNA, Keidra, for their wonderful care and attention during the last year of her life.
